After running a CD burn, PC treats it as a blank disc

Try putting the burned disc into another computer to see if it reads it. If not then it could be an issue with the disc burner itself. The laser could be going bad and that would cause the burner not to burn discs properly.

I have a Sony DVD DRU-820A burner. When I insert a dvd--either a blank one to burn or a DVD disc to view--the name of the drive switches from DVD-RAM Drive (D:) to CD Drive (D:). The burner no longer burns...

The device is _partially_ broken -- the part that reads/writes DVD media is "dead".

Spend $40 to purchase a new CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the "dead" unit.

My Ge Force will burn audio but not DVD.I have tried with Ashampoo,Record Now and Express Burner. The burning programme tells me there is no disc in drive

Hi Brian.

I think you are a little confused.

Your GeForce FX 5500 is a graphics card
All this does is allow you to see your desktop on a monitor and play some games.

For burning discs you need a cd/dvd burner. This is a cd/dvd drive that you can use to read and write cd's and dvd's

You say that your program is telling you that there is no disc in the drive. (Your CD/DVD burner drive)
You can burn audio discs so this tells me you know that much and you have blank cd's so my two things I need to tell you are these..

1. To make a DVD or Burn a DVD you need a BLANK DVD disc in your burning drive. Maybe you have mistakenly placed a CD in the drive instead?
2. Your Burner drive may not burn DVD's only CD's?

Check on the door to the drive that opens to allow you to place discs into it. It should say something like DVD multi recorder or Compact Disc re-writeable. If it does not say DVD on it anywhere your drive is not capable of burning DVD movies and therefore you will need to purchase another burner.

I hope this helps?

I have had to replace my hard drive on my pc how can i get my music back on to pc from my ipod and back into i tunes

Backing up your iTunes library to a CD or DVD To burn a CD (CD-R or CD-RW), your computer must have a compatible CD burner. To burn a DVD (DVD-R or DVD-RW), your computer must have a compatible DVD burner. Check in iTunes Preferences to see if a drive is compatible. See below for steps.
To create your backup disc
  1. Choose File > Library > Back up to Disc.
  2. Select the option you want from the resulting dialog and click Back Up.
  3. The two options you can select from are:
    • Back up entire iTunes library and playlists
    • Back up only iTunes Store purchases
Whichever of these two options you choose, note that you can also choose "Only back up items added or changed since last backup" to perform an incremental backup.
  4. Insert a blank disc (CD or DVD) into your computer's optical drive. iTunes will scan the disc and begin burning.
  5. Note: If the disc you insert does not have enough space to hold all of the content you will be backing up, a dialog will appear asking whether you wish to backup to multiple discs. You can click Data Discs to continue.
iTunes burns the number of items that fit on one disc and then asks you to insert subsequent discs to continue burning the remaining files. Don't eject a disc while a backup is in progress.
Spoken programs purchased from the Audible.com website are not backed up.
Discs you create using the iTunes backup feature can be used only to restore; they can't be played in a CD or DVD player.

Restoring from a backup disc
  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Insert your backup disc.
  3. iTunes will ask whether you want to restore from this disc. Click Restore.
Check drive compatibility
  1. Choose a playlist on the left side of the iTunes window.
  2. Click the Burn Disc button on the bottom right corner of iTunes.
  3. If the drive is listed, it's compatible.

A DVD CD burner came installed in my Emachine computer purchased Nov 2007 and runs Vista Just want simple instructions on how to use the burner. Thanks

To burn files onto a disc, all you need to do is drag and drop files onto your drive under My Computer. When you have put all the files there, put the disc you want to burn in there, go to My Computer, double click the drive, then go to File/Burn these files to my disc. If you wish to burn music/video CDs or DVDs I would suggest using more of a full fledged burning suite such as Nero.

I purchased a pack of Memorex CD-R rrecordable 52X 700MB 80 min. discs from Staples and I was told I could use these to transfer pictures from my drive c. When I put the CD in to the drive D it asks me to...

Cd-R does not need formatting. They are ready to burn. There is probably a problem with your cdr drive.

A cd-rom drive is not a burner.

Are you sure you have a burner and not a cd-rom?

If you do have a burner, try another few disks. If it still says insert disk then your burner has crapped out.
