Compaq armada stuck on help menu

When i turn on my lap top,it starts to boot up on windows xp but then goes to black screen with help menu.It says we apologize for inconvience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped respondin, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.
And then menu.
I can get into f10 and f1 but i dont know what to do? i tried all the menu buttons, any help or advice much appretiated.
Thanks Karen,

Try selecting safe mode, remove the software/or updates you recently installed
or choose last known good configuration.
If that does not work, you can choose F10 and restore your OS

unplug all devices except power, take out your battery, and try to start it again

otherwise...you can try to use the F10 when you turn it on...this will give you the option to restore the computer to the way it was when you bought it.

when you have done that, and it still wont boot up, you most likely have a hard drive problem. since it is a compaq, you may be able to test it in the bios (F2) select boot devices, and test

what kind of Armada is it?

How to get to safe modem?

Tip: If you are running Safe Mode because you cannot get into Windows, you may want to first try loading the last known good configuration.

To get into the Windows 2000 and XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use yourarrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers, if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode- If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen

When I move my compaq lap top or type a key too hard

that sounds like a video card error. if you can disassemble the notebook, check for loose connectors, particularly the connector that goes to the screen.

OS does not work in pc

The Windows 98 option seems to be DOS-only. You could try typing WIN or WINDOWS at that C:\> prompt.

For Windows XP, you can try a few things:

1. Boot into Windows XP, but hit F8 BEFORE the splash screen (with the scrolling bar) appears. You will get a menu. Try Start with last known good configuration. See if it boots. If not, repeat, but choose Safe Mode. If it will not boot in Safe Mode, you have a more serious problem. Continue to 2....

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM drive (you need to have your BIOS set to boot from CD first, or look at the POST screen for an option that lets you select boot device). If it asks, press a key to boot from CD. Let it load. First off, try pressing R to go into the recovery console. Follow the instructions. When it asks you which Windows you want to log on to, choose the appropriate one. When it asks for a password, try just pressing Enter (return). If that works, you will get a prompt similar to the Windows 98 screen. Here, try the following:

CHKDSK /r
(this will take a while - just leave it. Note that you may see it restart the % count up to 5 times. You'll get a report the prompt again when it is finished. Hopefully it says it repaired one or more errors)

FIXBOOT
(say Y to the question)

Now reboot. If you get the menu screen again, don't choose safe mode or last good configuration, choose Start Windows normally.

If this doesn't work, you either have a badly damaged Windows install or a hardware fault. You could try booting into the Windows CD and doing a repair install. Where you pressed R before, press ENTER. Follow the on-screen instructions - you want to do a repair install.

Try removing the battery and starting up only on AC power. You may have a faulty battery. It could also be the power supply or a bad memory chip. If it's none of these, then it's a motherboard problem.

Start up problem

it is struggling to find the boot.ini, you can try pressing F8 when it's booting up and then you should get into safe mode, when in select last known good configuration and then press enter for a reboot.

If you still cannot get into windows you will need to perform a system repair, borrow a friends XP disc, but use the key code normally on the underneath of notebooks of your own system if you have one, then set your cdrom as first boot device in the bios (F2 or Del on boot up) and then insert the disc, then press enter to boot from cdrom and press R for repair when prompted.
