Roller motor on a DC17 dyson wont turn on

I have a dyson dc17 animal- the beater bar motor got jammed and quit working- I cleaned all the hair and junk away from the belt, and drive area. The motor will now come on when the handle is lowered. Is there a fuse or a reset switch someplace that I can reset or replace, Or is the motor shot.

There is a reset button under the cover that houses the on/off switches. remove the handle/wand and look on the back (where the top of the hose sits) for 2 screws (its a torx/star head screw size t10 i believe). remove them and locate 4 small locking tabs that hold the switch cover to the frame of the vacuum. Depress them and pop the cover off (2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom). Youll see 3 switches (2 square red buttons and one small cylindrical shaped one). Push the small red one (the one to the left if my memory serves me right). you should hear a click. if you do than the switch is reset. if not check all connections to all 3 switches. if you see nothing loose or not connected, you may need a new brushbar motor. try it

There is a gray beater switch next to the red power switch. The gray switch has a picture of the beater bar and on/off on it. Just push down on the gray switch to reset the beater.

Thanks for the information on the reset button under the switch covers. The instructions worked perfectly. The only problem I had was when I pulled the switch covers off, they separated and this small white plastic piece and spring fell off. I wasn't looking down when it happened (reading the instructions here instead), so I had to figure out how to put the springs and white pieces fit on the two switch covers. So I'd add be very careful upon removal so you don't have to puzzle it out. I got lucky and got it all back together, and now my vacuum works again. (And no, simply pushing the brush bar button to "on" would not have worked since the switch was tripped).

Well... not sure about this, but worth a shot. I did get one of these in for repair a while back, with exactly the same problem. The owner hadn't realized that there's an on/off switch for the brush motor. It's located on the front of the handle. Not sure, but it may be that this switch cuts off automatically if the motor gets overloaded, and needs to be reset manually.  Try it!

Beater bar was turning intermittently. No noise. Removed bar, disassembled ends and removed lots of junk. Replaced, and works like new, so far.

Belt replacement

It's a fairly simple job. The belt just loops over the end of the beater bar and motor shaft. Need to take the cover off the beater bar housing to get to it. Most difficult part is stretching the belt while putting the beater bar back in the housing.

sounds like you may have alot of hair or thread wrapped around the bar, this can stop it if there is enough, have a look at the beater bar (brush)
