Put a bootable CD in the CD drive and see if you can boot the laptop.
or, remove the hard drive and place it in an external USB enclosure. Plug that into the USB of a working computer and see if you can access the HD. If not the HD is bad. If you can you may have to reinstall your OS. Note: if you can get a copy of Live Linux from Ubuntu you can boot the Live Linux and see if you can access the HD. If you can not the HD maybe bad. There is always a chance the controller is bad on the Mother board. Here is a link to Ubuntu Linux
if you boot that from your CD you have the option to run Ubuntu from the CD. You can then try and access the HD.

Thin vertical blue ink bleed line from bottom of Malaprop screen - Fades over time

Yes, it's a screen problem. It could be a loose connection of the LCD and the motherboard or the lid lights gone bad. You can fix that by either resetting the connection of the screen and the motherboard or replacing the whole screen. You would need a technician to do that.

Thin blue line

This is a phisical hardware problem with the screen.
If the system is under warranty better take back so your vendor replace the screen.

I think is the only solution.

This is a progressive problem, day a day you will be seen more and more lines until the screen become death.

Vertical Lines in Monitor

If the lines are only on your laptop screen, it is generally the display IC on the LCD panel.

When plugged into an external monitor and you still see the lines, it is the video memory on your laptop.
