My Canon MP480 says the paper is jammed when in fact it is not. how can i reset it?

Turn off the printer.
Inspect the location or tray the printed paper ejects to. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.
Remove all paper trays and any paper that may be stuck between the tray and the printer. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.
Open the printer door that allows you access to the printer ink cartridges or toner and look for any stuck paper. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it
Turn the printer back on. If you continue to receive a printer jam error try repeating the above steps again. If issue still persist and you see no paper that is stuck in the printer it's likely your printer is experiencing another hardware issues and we suggest contacting the printer manufacturer for additional assistance or repair. In Case You Still face Problem and Need Online Assistance Then Please Follow Us For On : Canon Printer Support

When I try to line tells me that the paper size mismatch and only takes a copy of the text

Have/had the same problem: Getting "paper size mismatch" on the C4280 status screen, after we got a paper jam. Every time we hit OK and put in paper, Message about "Now printing Alignment page", it feeds through quickly, with nothing printed on the page and reverts back to Paper size mismatch. Finally got rid of the error, not sure how, but now when I try to copy anything, we only get the lower right postion of the document that I'm trying to copy. Printing from the PC seems ok.
Powered off and back on, and it is back to P"now printing alignment page, quick feed through and "paper size mismatch" error. AND
When copying directly from the glass panel,it will only print a quarter of the page -however it prints and coorectly if we print directly from the computer.
The problem is the paper size sensors. Remove the plastic access panel that is for access to the rollers in the back and has 4 rollers on it. There are two papaer sensors attached to the printer circuit board (PCB). The control arm for the sensor is a small plastic piece that extends slightly into the paper path above the PCB. The plastic can be broken when you are removing a paper jam. I stuck a small piece of a match stick in the sensor to keep it open (as though a wider piece of paper was passing throught the printer). I can't switch to smaller card stock, etc, but who cares, it works.
The copying problem is caused because the C4280 will not scan correctly until after it does the alignment phase.

Canon MP470: paper stuck

Unfortunately you need to disassembly the hole printer to solve the problem. In most case the object who block the paper is under the withe rollers and you can't see it from above.

Paper jammed

I had exactly the same problem, printer virtually new, printed great for a couple of weeks, then today refused to take paper with E3 flashing. No apparent blockage - all looked clean, tried all the utilities, roller cleaning and plate cleaning, but wouldn't take paper!
Solved it by moving the paper size guide all the way to the left, then folding the top 20mm of a sheet of A4 over and loading it so fold is at the top facing you. This acts as a catcher for anything stuck in the printer. Hold the paper slightly crooked with the left side slightly further into the printer and press the copy button (with nothing in the scanner!). It should draw the paper in now (with some persuasion) and think it is printing (it's blank,of course). Check as the top of the sheet goes in that the fold is still tight and doesn't open up as it feeds in. Lo and behold, mine brought out a 5p piece - printer now prints perfectly!

Paper stuck under printheads

I dont think the paper is beneath the ph. Some paper will stuck between the gear wheels. Pull papertray out and try to look from the bottom into the printer. Another way is to have a close look at the even left and right side from above when you open the scanner (like changing the carts).
