Sounds similar to mine problem which I have fixed.. I have also just sent this to someone else with the same/similar problem as yours/mine.

I had a prob with a WD1600 drive - would not spin ( nor click) I very gently removed the screws on the drive top - (there could be one hidden under the label also) - then connected the drive to both the power and data cable and turned it on - nothing was happening.
But by once again very gently (with very clean hands or wearing surgeons gloves preferably), I moved the platters by turning the spindle at the top on the platters a little each way, it suddenly started up and I have copied most of the data so far onto another drive.

Apparently heads can 'stick' to the platter if the drive is not shut down properly or suffers a power failure. This appears to be the case with mine and I hope its that simple with yours.
Hint - you need a special torx type screwdriver and don't try doing it unless you do so in a dust/smoke/loose hair free (as possible) area.

All the best

All my music that was on my wd are gone when i plug in my wd it doesn't show anything

Connect the WD Passport to a different computer, to see if YOUR computer is the problem.

If that does not help, any external disk-drive has two major components, inside the enclosure:
* disk-drive
* USB-to-disk-drive adapter

Open the case, and disconnect the disk-drive from the adapter, and remove the disk-drive. Connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the files can be "directly" read from the disk-drive.

Wd 250gb laptop HD only shows 118gb

In XP Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Computer manager then on the left click disk managment, you will see your 250gb drive as drive0 most likly with partition C and beside it you should see unallocated space, you can right click this unallocated space and format it, then right click again and click make partition active.

My WD 250GB passport portable hard drive is not recognized

If your system detects the connected device that is a good start. Was the drive formatted for another operating system? Certainly try the drive on another system and/or another drive on your system.

Local disk error WD My Passport 250GB

Do you connect & disconnect the drive according to WD's recommendations here? Try another cable. (If yours was wearing out, that might explain why it only connected some times.) Try another usb port. Check the power supply (another receptacle) Unplug other usb devices from the system.
See this article. Good luck!

I cannot retrieve my files from the wd 250gb

First instinct is that your drive has failed. I would remove the drive and insert it into a system to test. If it works, then it is the housing from the external drive that failed. If the drive does not work once inside your system, then the drive is bad. Good luck.

WD My Passport Essential 250GB USB2.0 is not working in WIn 98SE

Try using a Usb 2 cable "The one that came with the WD My Passport " And put it directly to the PC...
In some cases, Like mine, I used an extended cable + the cable that came with the "WD My Passport" and i got the same problem ..
So i simply removed the extended cable and put the put "WD My Passport " directly to the PC with its own cable and the problem was solved to me ..
