Canon a570 battery fail - with any and all new batteries

I have a cannon a570 IS purchased less than a year ago. worked great for 6 months. now no batteries work - any brand/ new/ rechargeable...no change - get battery low message all the time - lets me take 1 picture and then i need to replace!

i see on the cnet message boards that others have the same problem...any advice?Ditto for me. After only about five months, I went through two battery chargers, numerous batteries, and a couple of chats with Canon tech support who suggested pulling out the batteries and the time battery, waiting 20 minutes, then putting it all back together (with fresh batteries) so it can reset itself, all to no avail. I also know someone else who has the same problem after only five months.

Of course... I never filled out the warranty card, nor do I have my original receipt.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Lets try a simple check/fix; clean the battery terminals of the camera. It may even be necessary to scrape them to expose fresh metal. This is in consideration of possible surface corrosion/oxidation of the camera's battery contacts. In some other instances, it may even be necessary to stretch or slightly bend these terminals to ensure that they provide positive if not more contact pressure.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Hi

Check and clean the battery contacts.
You can get a free repair estimate from www.advancecamera.com/repair

The issue is possibly the mainboard in the camera draining too much power, that will need the help of a professional camera repairer.

Thank you,
Ekse

I'm have the exact same problem. Purchased the camera 3.5 years ago. Recently needed to shoot a video, when finished I set the camera back to Auto and it stayed in video. Portrait mode shows manual, all other modes work as assigned. I've noticed at least TWO other posters having the same problem within the last couple of months. It's as though this camera (mfg. 2007) has a Trojan program from the factory to make us buy newer models.

Other than resetting, is there a way to flush and reload the firmware?

Unfortunately, this is not unusual with rechargeable batteries. The best thing you can do with a rechargeable battery is to fully and completely discharge it, and then recharge it fully. After that, there's nothing else you can do except buy a new battery. You can get brand new, unbranded ones on eBay for a fraction of branded ones, and they work great. Just buy from a seller with a good reputation, and you can't lose. I usually buy multiples and never run out of battery power this way.

Camera only takes 5 photos before dying

This new battery, if it is the exact type of battery recommended by the manufacturer then it is most likely not the battery. if you bought a similar battery it might be for even the minimum difference makes all the difference with digital cameras. for camera repair this company does a good job and you can even select your problem on their online quote. www.teleplancamerarepair.com

Short battery life

Use the best name brand batteries you can find. Energizers and Duracell work best. Chance the size of your pictures to the smallest you can. At 300 X 300, you can still make 8 X 10 enlargements clearly. The larger the pic, the more power it takes to process it.

Hmmm...... there might be a time battery that needs replacing. Look fore something like CR1220 or time battery. Pry it open and replace it with a battery of the same size.

Problem of rechargable battery

The best way to tell if it is a battery problem would be to charge them fully then use the camera and see how long they keep working as compared to what their specs are (probably in your camera info). It is also possible that the charger is at fault, which can be tested by measuring the output of the charger with a meter, or check to make sure the charger is the proper one for those batteries ("quick" chargers may need special batteries, etc.). If your camera can use alkaline batteries of the same type, try new ones and see if it still says "low" -- if so then it could be the camera. Hope this helps. If not, check your camera website and try troubleshooting there.

For some reason the camera won't turn on. We just bought it a few months ago, and it was working.Suddenly it stopped. We even changed the batteries. What happened? It is a Canaon Powershot A570 IS

This can be anything from a bad battery contact, to something that went defective on the circuit board. Just double check that you are inserting the batteries properly if it takes AA types.

You would be best off to call Canon's tech suport and arrange for warrenty service.
