I had the same problem which I reported late last year but I could record tapes. I bought another VR357 on eBay & it had the same problem. However I found that when I connected the unit to a digital converter box instead of the cable box I didn't get the message & I could record DVDs. Furthermore when I reconnected to the cable box it also worked --so far. It has worked for a short period of time sometimes when I unplugged it for awhile. Since it stopped working when I was recording a show starting at midnight I suspect that Comcast is sending something at that time that triggers the error message. Try disconnecting the input cable, maybe overnight.

Is this a new problem or has it always been like this? The unit will throw that error message if there's a copy protection flag on the broadcast source.

To make matters worse, there are three flags a broadcaster can set. Copy Always, Copy Once, and Copy Never.

Copy Always and Copy Never are pretty self-explanatory but the Copy Once flag with this unit only works with certain media, namely DVD-RAM and DVD-RW in VR mode with CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media.

Copy Always flag should work with all media. I don't know of any easy way to figure out which broadcasts have which flag but try changing your media and recording mode first.

P.S. You may also want to reset to factory default settings by pressing FF and RW together on the player. Also make sure you're running the latest firmware.

Good Luck!

How to record dvd from vhs

There are some units that can do this, but if you are trying to copy commercially recorded VHS movies to DVD you will have issues. The VHS tapes have copy protection on them and all manufactured hardware to record these have been required by law to support the protection. Thus, you will get poor copy reproduction when copying. If they are home-movie style VHS tapes, no such issues exist. You can either get a unit that has both devices integrated and has copy capability, or you can you a VHS player and send the outputs to a DVD recorder.

Is there a way to hook up a second dvd player wo recording capabilities to record the movie to a blank cd while it's playing thru another dvd player

If you are trying to make a copy of a commercially produced DVD movie, give up. They are copy protected and the equipment sold to record and play DVDs will not allow you to make copies of these movies. Even if it would copy, there would be image distortion and possible sound distortion that would render the movie unwatchable. There are other ways to do it that involve computers and special software, but they are not legal in most jurisdictions so I will not venture into those areas.

Why won't the Sony controls let me click onto finalize using a Sony TV w/recoder to transfer VHS to DVD?

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

Trying to copy vcr tapes onto a dvd and it will not let me...says protected? how?

If the tapes are commercial type movies being bought at a store some time ago, the system will detect it as copy right protected and will not let you make a copy. I've had the problem in the past many times, but if the tape is a home made movie taken with a video camera, it should let you copy it. Some video to pc software does this even with homemade video movies, very frustrating and annoying some times.

Daewoo DVD-T "copy not possible - this media cannot be copied" when trying to copy from VHS (tape is not copy protected) to blank DVD-R and +R media. Same problem with all DVDs and VHS tapes

You can only copy non-commercial VHS tapes that you have recorded yourself to DVD. You can\'t make copies of most commercially made VHS movies due to copy-protection.

Is it possible the VHS you're trying to copy is copy-protected? Apparently, the MC6 displays "waiting for signal" when you're attempting to copy a copy-protected (commercial) video. I had success converting my own homemade VHS tapes. I just bought my MC6, and thought I'd pass along some tips I got from others: You know you're recording when a red ring around the large Record button lights up and it actually says "recording" on screen, and adjust HQ to SP to get 2-plus hours of video on the DVD.

My combo player recorder will play dvd's fine, however it just started to not record. Have cleaned heads and still no luck. Can you give me any things that may help me out?

Are you getting any error messages? Many units will not copy or will only record "garbage" if you try to copy a protected, commercial tape or DV. Home movies usually don't experience any copying problems because they don't have the "don't copy" code placed on them.
