Question about HP Pavilion A520n (DW233A#ABA) PC Desktop

Blank screen on boot-up

Its a desktop. Hard drive was thrown away for unknown reason. I replaced hard drive.

I push power button and the square button flashes blue once than stays unlit. The led under the power button is orange. Nothing appears on screen. Power supply is not the problem. I tried a different graphics card other than the onboard with same results. Tried entering bios and failed. I believe it is a mainboard issue.

Any help?

When I push the power button, the main dell start up screen comes on followed by a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. It uses Windows 7

Remove any CD's or USB drives 1st.

Sound like its trying to load and can't find hard drive, CD, or USB device. You need to go into BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key to press during boot. Make internal hard drive first. Save and restart. Reseat hard drive if it does not show up in BIOS.

I haved a Emachine EL 1300G-01W that has crashed

Power it down, pull the power lead out, remove the cover from the base and check that all the leads (to the hard drive and the motherboard) are seated correctly - by physically pushing them in. Then push and hold the power button on the front for 10 seconds. Then replace the cover and power lead and try starting it up.

Had trouble booting the computer over time. Sometimes power light would come on and nothing else. By unplugging, waiting 15sec it would power up. Over time this stopped working. Eventually power light...

Time to look for a new computer. That and take out your hard drive to copy your files over.

Sounds like motherboard problem. Probably not worth repair.

I've got an HP desktop with similar problems. It turned on one day just fine. The next day not. I don't even get the boot up screens. Disconnecting Hard Drive and CD/DVD components do not help. I should at least get some BIOS POST beeps and a Hard Drive Not Found or such. I do not. On occassion it will boot to a blank screen with white cursor in upper left. Most the time no screen at all. On rare occassion it comes right on and boots Windows. I guess it could be the power switch ... but I doubt that.

I think I updated BIOS from Dell incorectly. Downloaded to "C" drive, replaced old BIOS with update. Resart. Blank screen, six beeps ( four then two), power light green, hard drive spins fast & blank...

Sounds like the BIOS upgrade didn't take. Those beep codes are audible indicators that the motherboard has failed POST (Power On Self Test).

Here's is a list of the codes for your specific BIOS/PC:

Black blank screen Lenovo 3000 N100

You say the laptop all of a sudden flashed off.

How old is the laptop? You may have suffered one of two things? First of all, if the hard drive will not boot back up, even after using the recovery discs, then that would explain it powering off. I have seen this happen on old desktop hard drives.

Next, try to get the transformer or adapter tested. It may not be putting out enough amperage to run the laptop.

I have a gateway Profile 5. when i cut it on

My understanding is that when you power on your PC, the POST is succesful, but then the system hangs.? If i am correct. There are several reasons this may happen.

1) Boot record corrupt
S) Reformat the harddrive and re-install operating system / replace hard drive

2) General Hard drive failure but boot record instact
S) Replace Hard drive

3) Operating system inoperative
S) Re-install operating system

Most pre-built systems come with recovery disks, you may try this as a solution if available.

When replacing a defective hard drive, or partialy inoperable hard drive, a good policy is to change the drive to slave, and install the new drive as master, this way any data you may be able to recover, can be done after the new hard drive is installed, and an operating system is installed on the new drive.

(POST = Power On Self Test)

My HP 2133 wont boot. The light comes on saying it charging and the power button. However the WLAN does not come on and the screens blank, the mouse and keyboard is unresponsive . And had it about a month.

Hi! Have you tried removing the hard drive and checking all is clean and ship shape. I had the same problem on a Nx 9010 all lights up but no one home, I removed the hard drive took it out of its tray blew any dust away returned the caddy/tray locked it back in place hit the power button and BINGO all is well again.
Worth a try!

Emachine crash

Yes, with that beeping sound that you're hearing from your hard drive is a sign of a bad hard drive , that's also the reason why the computer wont even boot because the hard drive is already bad, the best thing that you can do here is to get a new hard drive..

Hope that helps..............
