Question about Singer 132QRFB Mechanical Sewing Machine

Singer 2010 doesn't want to stop

My singer 2010 continues to run (sew) after I've taken my foot off the pedal. I tried tapping on the pedal and sometimes it would stop leaving me to believe a connection in the foot pedal is off and so current is still getting to the machine even when I'm not pressing the foot pedal down. I can't figure out how to open up the foot pedal to check. This is most annoying, especially because I do costume work for a local theatre and it takes more time when I have to manually turn the machine off to get the stitching to stop. Any suggestions?

Ummmm how do I open up the foot control to get the suppressor out? I'm assuming the suppressor is located in the foot control. If not, where is it?

I cant' figure out how to get into the pedal. There is no rubber bottom or screw. It seems like I will break it if I open it. Also, there was a rattle and we got a tiny piece of plastic out of it - looks like something broke inside

I have a Singer Merritt 4530.  I don't know if the foot pedal works the same way on your model, but on mine it is held together not by screws or latches, but simply by white plastic rods that serve as hinges.  These rods have a hole drilled in their center, presumably so some special tool can be used to pull them out.  Lacking a special tool, I glued a nail into the hole, and once the glue dries you can pull the nail and pull the rod out with it.  The rod is about an inch long and held in place merely by friction - no glue or screw threads.  Once one rod is removed, you should be able to slide the pedal off of the rod on the other side, though that might have only worked because some of the plastic housing was cracked on mine.  If you don't want to take the time to test that, just glue a nail into both rods and pull them both out.
Once you get the pedal open, mine had a giant white cylinder that looks kind of like a battery or a fuse.  This thing was getting very hot the longer the pedal was left plugged in.  I read on many web sites that this object can cause overheating or short circuit the pedal so it's always sewing.  It's called a suppressor and can be safely thrown away.  I haven't found an explanation for precisely what it does or why it can be safely thrown away, but I theorize it's a surge suppressor and that most modern wiring isn't going to surge too much.  I got rid of it and the pedal still works and doesn't overheat.  It may be safest to plug the machine into a surge-protected power strip once the suppressor is gone - just my theory.

Problems with foot pedal light

sounds like there is a design fault, I suggest if you can take the
machine back and get a different brand of sewing machine.
I've been sewing for over 25 years and I would put up
with that kind of sewing machine.
probably a computer problem.

How can i stop my singer brilliance 6180 sewing machine from running... once i start sewing by stepping on the foot control.. even when i take my foot off.. it stills continues to sew and i have no idea...

you may find that the footpedal is faulty however there is a place on your footpedal where you can adjust the speed.. or sensitivity it takes a small screwdriver, have alook at your pedal is there a tiny screw or little hole maybe a plus or minus sign on it

Foot pedal not working

Well, you are definitely getting power from the electric plug in.

Let's do some diagnostic work. Do you hear anything when you press the foot pedal? Any hum? Did you happen to leave it in bobbin winding mode?

your machine doesn't have a "sew" button for use without the pedal. So please rotate the hand wheel toward you as you press the pedal. Did the motor take over and sew?

If you know someone with a meter... have them test the pedal. (they will place probes on/in the part that plugs in which tests for shorts, etc.) If that tests ok... then we know it's something more than the pedal and it will need servicing by a Singer Tech.

The machine runs constantly when foot pedal is plugged in. What is wrong?

My machine is acting quirky too. I have a Singer Professional 2010 and it just started jumping from side to side when in straight stitch, also it won't turn off when I take the foot off the pedal. I don't know what the problem is. I have a whole pile of stuff to finish for Christmas and now I'm in a real bind!

Wiring a foot control pedal for Singer Slant-o-Matic 401G sewing machine, banana socket. The machines listed are newer models and my 401 is not listed.

Faboulous machine the 401 and the best machine ever made, in the UK if I remember the two red wires go to the right hand pin and thw two blacks go to each terminal, when you rewire the plug which is fidly undo the stop motion, when you plug the machine in if it runs on without touching the foot control change the two black wires over, to rewire the foot control there are only two wires, you can't go wrong.

Undo the foot control and take out the little square bit called a suppressor which you don't need these days anyway and it should be fine.
