Polaroid LCD digital audio output problems

For some reason, the TLA-04011C Polaroid 40" LCD TV will only allow the digital audio output to work on just ONE of their 9 input sources. i'm trying to hook my TV up so that the audio from ANY of these devices will come out of my home theater system. i can hook some audio RCA cables up to the "Audio Out" jack on the back of the TV, and to the "Audio In" on the home theater and i am able to achieve this effect. but i want to have Dolby 5.1 sound on all of my devices. But when i hook the digital coaxial cable up to the "digital out" on the TV, and the "digital in" on the audio receiver, i am only able to hear the audio if i switch to the "TV" input on the TV. for reference, the inputs are as follows:
TV (Cable) Aux 1 (RCA) Aux 2 (RCA) S-Video Component 1 Component 2 HDMI 1 HDMI 2 VGA
this is a built in setting on the TV, as it will only allow me to enable "dolby digital" on the on-screen menu when i'm in "TV" mode
i would like to have dolby digital playback from my Xbox 360, Wii, and my cable box, yet since i'm unable to change the audio setting to "dolby digital" from any mode but "TV" it appears as if i'm out of luck. this just doesn't make sense to me especially since i'm able to achieve the desired effect (although not dolby 5.1 surround) via the regular old RCA audio out jacks on the TV
so i guess my question is; am i missing something? or am i SOL? is there a solution to this problem at all? (besides buying a new TV of course)
hopefully this makes sense to someone. i'm sorry for all of the detail, but i just want to make sure i covered all the bases
thanks!

dscacco, yes you are right. my amplifier does have some audio inputs. Aux1, Aux2, and digital coaxial. if i plug RCA's from my TV's audio output into my amp's AUX1, i am able to hear EVERYTHING that is displayed on my television screen (xbox, wii, cable box, etc) through my home theater, just not in dolby 5.1. yet if i plug the digital coaxial into my tv's digital output, and my amp's digital input, i get nothing unless i switch my tv to the "TV/Cable" input on the on-screen menu.

lone99star, my wii is connected via component video and rca audio cables, and my cable box and xbox are connected via HDMI

Sounds like your trying to use your TV as your main source for audio signals for your home theater system. Does your home theater amplifier have any plug in ports like TV, DVD, HDMI, SAT, and etc?

I see the problem. Your TV is bad-***, so don't blame it. It's just the digital coaxial built only for the receiver part of the TV for the antennae and cable. I don't think you'll find a TV that does different.

Sorry to say but, you'll have to upgrade the amplifier that has all the HDMI ports and more digital coaxial inputs.

TV is acting like a filter on the 5.1 signal. Best to plug all your sources into the amplifier first, then use the output on the amplifier to the TV. This is the only way to get dolby 5.1 on everything.

Problem on polaroid 04011c not shoving menu display or volume or eny command

Does your set respond to the controls on the set itself?

If you, are you able to access the setup menu to perform a factory reset?

If so, press menu, navigate over to setup, then choose reset defaults, to see if that improves your situation.

I hope that helps.
