Well if you dont have norton you shouldnt have a firewall so you should be able if anything try to contact the computer manufactor and seek help since their is no files or programs, sounds like he deleted everything but the operating system which in that case you have a basic computer and you could do anything to it, but if the system is back to out of the box status it should have everything that came with the original computer and you should be able to find a the preinstalled firewall and remove it and then install norton then you will have to start to re install all the programs you had on thecomputer before it was restored, but i would never want a system restore to go that far back try to keep a restore as far back as a month at a max. or the day before the computer started showing problems, and one more thing you might alos want to consider for the future to get a protable hardrive to back up you hard drive in case something like this were to happen again or try a free internet sever site which would allow to back your pc up in case of something like this or something all were to get ruined and you didnt want to lose all your work. thats my answer to your problem but i am sure their are more ways out their to fix this little issue you have

System restore failed

Switch On your PC/ Laptop and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->Click 'System Restore'

A 'System Restore' window will appear.

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next

Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

Note: It is better if you could remember from which date you are facing the issue, try to select a date prior to that date.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

If this fails or not successful then your pc is infected by virus.

If you feel that, my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.
Thanks.

When I tried to open act version 2006 it would not open the current data base and it directed me to an earlier saved file which I mistakenly loaded, by doing so I "lost" 350 contacts from an 10 month...

The database may be corrupt or on a network drive not accessible at the time you tried.
Open ACT. Go to File/Open Database.. Look for all files ending in ".ADF" files where you suspect them to be, then try opening them. One of them is most likely your data file. If you use the "DETAILS" view, you can see the last date the file was accessed and this too should help you define which file you want.
Don't worry by opening a new file you did not loose any contacts or data.
Once you get them back......back them up for safe keeping.

Good Luck

I need to do a system restore for my Acer Aspire 8930G. Will it delete files I have installed after the system restore date I use

Yes, it will set back to its previous state as if you haven't installed your programs. It will restore mostly system configurations and program changes but some documents and files will retain.

If you're doing it for troubleshooting purpose, better to create first a new Restore Point on the current date and time. That way, you could always revert back to that point if nothing good happens on your system restore.

Excel not importing dates as given by accounting package

Dear Valanti,

This implies that basically the versions are causing the problem and there are compatibility issues with your program. I would suggest that you should copy the report files to a detachable media and transfer it to your new system because this is a one time process.

You can also install the same version on both PCs. You can also do following for tracking changes in documents:

  • In Word 2002 and 2003: Tools > Track Changes.
  • In Word 2000 and earlier versions: Tools > Track Changes > Highlight Changes. Tick Track Changes while editing.
If that was helpful, please press solved.
