Door catch not working on whirlpool MH1150xm

Hi,

The pivoting catch on the body of my whirlpool gold MH1150xm is not catching the door latch. I can see that the top latch is not under tension any more and is not returning to its normal position when the door is open or closed (the light remains on). If you can also please tell me how to take it apart as well, I would greatly appreciate it!
I can see the parts at http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=504051.

Thank you,

Erin

Unfortunately, it's not in the door. I wish it was b/c that looks easy. It's where the door latch catches. The plastic catch (the one that looks like it pivots) has disappeared into the hole on the top latch. I can see it in there and it doesn't look broken, but I don't know how to proceed to see what's going on. I've used those diagrams and it's either the spring, or the plastic piece. It's piece 11 &/or 12 in the diagram. I would appreciate further help if you can please help.

    Thank you!

The cam part just got pushed back into the microwave somehow & it was easy to restore it to its normal position once we could see it.

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Oh I see - YIKES! I didn't read your post closely enough. Sorry.

I would suspect the cam plate (ref # 12) has a broken tab which holds it or the spring in place.

You'll need to remove the control panel assembly to be able to get to the "interlock" (ref # 13) which holds the cam plate and spring.

I'm betting you'll have to take that part off, and if so, please carefully mark its position so you can get it back exactly where it was.

Otherwise, there can be leakage, which can pose a danger of burns or damage to the oven or you!

    There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
    behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it
    here.

    At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Please let us know how it goes.

Door catch is stuck in unit so door won't close and microwave won't work

No, the only way is to take it to a technician. The door and catch has about 4 safety interlocks to stop you getting microwaved. The case has security screws only the techs can undo.

I have to slam the door very hard for it to close correctly what would cause this problem?

Incorrectly adjusted door catch. They have movement on them to allow a tight seal due to the microwave capability.

I just found the specs and instructions on it.

Have to slam door to get oven to operate

Try a) Lubricate the latches. I sprayed wd-40, you probably can use vegetable oil. Both sides, latch and receptor. Just doing this may fix your problem. (I have to admit I did part b first before trying this so I am not sure, but after doing this, it made my part b fix work even better)

b) Failing this, I found opening it up (t-20 torx screw driver) and tying a wire in the top hole, through the bottom latch body and fastening to a bottom hole of the microwave frame to force the mechanism to stay in place. You want to pull it towards the oven cavity. This will keep it from bending out of alignment. I found that it is only the bottom latch that has to catch for the microwave to sense the door is closed.

Samsung microwave door popped open and now won't close. What happened?

The spring attachment to the moving latch has broken off either replace the latch or drill a small hole in the latch body and attach some heavy steel wire to make a new attach point for the spring. the inside trim easily pops off and the latch just slides off.

I have a sharp carousel model r-305m . we cannot close our door without slamming it. it looks like the top catch has broken or slipped down. can you help us

Door catches.

If one of the latches has broken off and is not lifting the other latch clear of the housing. Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to open. When a new door lever is in place, the door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I hope that helps.

Door switches

If one of the door interlock switches is not switching properly, that can cause the turntable/light to come on even though the "Starts" button has not been depressed due to the wiring of the switches.
Check for faulty door switches and/or contaminated actuators.
I hope that helps.

How to open the door of 773 model for replacing the damaged latch.? Hook like thing of the latch at the upper part is damaged and i have to replace it witha new latch. But I am not open the door.

To open the door, remove the appliance case and with a long small diameter screwdriver, gently lift the catch holder assembly up to release the door catches.
When you replace the door catch, ensure that the door fits correctly.

Need help replacing handle on whirlpool microwave model MH1150XM

Remove two screws on top at front in order to remove plastic front vent grill. Then the door lifts off pin hinges. Lay door flat on surface. Plastic trim snaps off with gentle prying (start at bottom middle and bottom hinge side). Then remove six screws holding notched metal section with door latch. This piece will also snap out (several visible clips holding it around edges). Then remove door handle screws, Replace handle and reverse process to put back together.
