U are going to have to replace the touch pad under the numbers, this will cost more than the phone did in most cases, replacing it is the best option.

I need to turn of fwd/dnd

Take the handset off the hook, then press the FWD/DND button followed by 0 (zero). When you hear the tone, hang the handset back up. This will work with the PT (Panasonic Proprietary telephone) system. (Alternatively, pick up the handset, press 7 (seven) 1 (one) 0 (zero) 0 (zero) and hang up after the tone. This works for PT and SLT phones (single line telephone))

The same sequence works to cancel call forwarding (except for follow me forwarding). In the Follow me mode, pick up the handset, press FWD/DND or 7 1 0 followed by 8 and the extension number. Then hang up after hearing the tone.

I hope this helps.

Code to retrieve messages

Here are the instructions you need to follow:

If you want to be able to play your messages from a remote location, you need to enter a two-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) code (01-99).
To select a PIN, perform the following steps:
1) With the phone in standby, press [menu/clock] twice.
The system announces "Security code," and the current PIN code is announced as it is displayed on the base.
Then the system announces the instructions for setting the PIN code.
2) Press [volume/select/ ] or [volume/select/ ] until the desired number appears.
3) Press [set] to select the PIN code. You hear a confirmation tone, then the announcement "Security code" followed by the new PIN code is announced. After a few seconds, the system announces "To set ring time, press menu again."
Note: The PIN code is set to "80" at the factory.

How to check messages over phone outside of house

You didn’t post which model you have, but this should work. If it doesn't, post which model you have and I can give you different instructions for your specific model.

To operate from a remote location, use any touch-tone telephone, and follow these steps:
Call your telephone number and wait for the system to answer. If the answering system is off, it will answer after about ten rings and sounds a series of beeps.
During the greeting or the beeps (if answering system is off), press [0] and enter your security code/PIN within two seconds (The default security PIN is 80)
The answering system announces the current time and the number of messages stored in memory..
You hear “To play incoming messages, press zero-two. For help, press one-zero” followed by a beep.
