It souns like a complex problem. Five blinks according to self diagnostic - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video.Four-No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.Three- B+ -over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit.

And this the repair manual for similar model

But most probably it is not the fix byyourself solution
You need to contact service center and expect to pay up to $500
Good Luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your post describes multiple symptoms and several fault indicators. In cases such as this, foremost to check would be the power supply. Since at times the picture and sound works as expected albeit for a short duration, I am inclined to think that the fault is either a cold solder issue or a leaking capacitor (again both in the power supply).

Offhand, this would require opening the unit, performing voltage measurements and comparing with known standard values. A service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram is also needed. Further this requires familiarity with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM and a soldering iron as well as safe practices when working with live units & high voltage. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), then perhaps your best bet is to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Hi

Its the problem of convergence circuit and you need to get the STK IC 392-xxx replaced by seeing the part no from the board of your tv. Also check for any leak capacitors on the convergence board.

Thanks

Looks like the lamp needs to be replaced. Has the lamp been replaced or would this be the first time. Usually what occurs for lamp replacement is the TV dies no video or sound after being turned on for 10 seconds to 2 minutes.

I think replacing the lamp will fix this issue. Also, replacing the lamp is very easy to do. It should take the technician less then 15 minutes to do. I can changed my for the 50WE610 in about 10 minutes. The hard part is removing the tv casing. To replace the bulb is in the owner's manual.
The lamp part number for KDF55XS955 is

    Manufacturer Part #:XL2200U or A1085447A or A1060818A .

    Thanks

    Rylee

Also Before replacing the lamp, read the Operating Instructions supplied with the Sony "Grand WEGAâ„¢".
Installation requires a 3mm Allen wrench (which is supplied)

    CAUTIONS
Turn off and unplug the power cord. The surface of the lamp is extremely hot, wait for more than 30 minutes to allow the lamp to cool down

Hi caegster

For this tv, 4 blinks, pause, 4 blinks, etc. means "Fan stopped" and the probable cause locations listed are as follows:

1. Fan 1-4 power is not supplied (ASU board).
2. Fan connector is not attached securely.
3. Fan caught wires or harnesses.

These are starting points for a qualified service technician.

Not so sure about the funky screen deal but the 3 blinks of the red light i believe i can help.

Your tv is shutting down and going in to a protection mode to protect itself from damage. The light blinking 3 times represents high voltage shutdown, usually occurring in the convergence IC's and support componets of the tv. It is known as a common problem. Sorry its not a consumer fix for its a major fault in the circuitry. But if you have knowlage it can be repaired. If you take it for repair it will usually run about $300 to $400.

4 blinks means you have a vertical deflection problem. 5 blinks indicates a problem with video circuit. Which is definitely the problem your having.
