Remove the memory card from the camera, then check a notch or type of slide switch at its sides. adjust the swicth to make sure the memory card is not write protected. Insert it back to the camera and test it again

Sign comes up when screen turned on to say memory card is protected and wont go away. while this sign is on camera cant be used

Take a look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Olympua m 760 cant take pictures screen says write protect

Your memory card has been write protected. This can be very easily fixed.
  1. Turn off cam.
  2. Take out the mem. card. (it's probably located near the battery. press down on it and release it. it will pop out.)
  3. Slide the small switch on the side of the card to the position marked with an unlocked padlock.
  4. Put card back in and turn on cam. Done.

Screen reads memory card write protected cant get it off

SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Memory card write protected

Check the side of the memory card. Some of them have a little switch that turns on/off write protection. If there is no switch, you can try to format it in the computer first, then put it in the camera and format it again.

Camera wont back up to memory card

Hi there.
Check to make sure the write protection is turned off on the memory card itself, the write protection tab is located on the left hand side of the card and is usually coloured white.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

I turn my camera on and it says protected card across the screen. I cant take pictures but I can look at them. I take out the card and turn the camera on and it either says memory full or just completely...

SD cards have a little slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

"Memory card is protected"

This error message indicates that the memory card is locked. The switch on the memory card is in the write-protect position. Reset the switch as shown on the camera screen.
