The most common problem is the flame sensor located just behind the fire chamber, about two inches long in a round rubber boot with two wires. you can get one from mr. heater for about 3 bucks. the wires are a different color but all you have to do is splice them to your old wires. it doesn't matter how you connect them.

Pilot light will not stay lit. I have tried holding the button down for 1 min, 2 min, 3 min and once the button is released the flame goes out

Is the pilot light FLAME touching the 'ThermoCouple'?
(This is a little rod-like device, that generates a signal voltage,)
This signal tells the Gas valve that it is safe to let the main gas in to the burner.

This ThermoCouple might be dirty-- or sooted up-
or it might need replacing.

Try cleaning the surface of the TC first--
Then--Try adjusting the discharge of the pilot, so it positively heats the TC

Does that allow the Gas valve to open now?

If you want to try changing out the TC-- take the model and information off from the gas valve, and the heater-- possibly your local hardware will have Thermocouples?-
If not-- yo may have to call a service company-- see if they will sell yo one..

Let me know where you want to go next with this trouble shooting process.

My all-pro propane heater will not stay lit for over thirty seconds after I release the red fuel start button, before the flame goes out it makes an air hissing noise right before it shuts off.Heater will...

This sounds like a problem with your thermocouple.

Just remove the end of the thermocouple from where is goes into the gas valve and leave the end that goes into the flame in place.

Clean the end of the thermocouple connect by scraping off just a little metal from the end just about there the nut tightens the thermocouple into the gas valve. After you have exposed some new metal do the same inside the valve where the thermocouple seats into the gas valve.
Use a small pic or similar item to scrape inside the gas valve to expose some new metal there also.

Now reassemble the thermocouple into the gas valve and see if the heater works.

Here is a link with some more instructions.

If this does not solve the problem you may need a new thermocouple and you can find that at www.desaparts.com

Thanks

Pilot don't stay lit after the gas control knob is release.

Hi,
The thermocouple is bad and you will have to replace it...
The thermocouple is the thing that sticks up in the flame to sense that the flame is on... if it goes bad the pilot flame will not stay lit when you release the button...

SPC-40 wont stay lit

Problem is either the thermocouple or the thermoelectric valve. I have one of these as well with the same problem. On mine it is not the thermocouple. I have replaced the thermocoupler and still have the problem. A thermoelectric valve is $42.25 at http://www.masterheaters.com/propane/
Im looking for a cheaper part. Any suggestions?

Heater won't stay lit after releasing yellow button

you need to replace the thermocouple at the burner tip it will be a copper line with a bulb in the flame tip with a copper tube leading back to the gas valve and it senses the flame and keeps the gas valve open
