Craftsman 22 HP automatic/46 How to install drive belt

I have a craftsman automatic and the drive belt has broken. Won't go forward or reverse. How do I go about installing a new belt, and is there any free diagrams to look at to find the right belt. Thanks Jim

Thanks for the info. I know what you mean to be limber. I jacked it up enough to reach under. I think sears has a special jack that they raise the whole front end up and hold it straight up and down, then they can see and get to every thing.I did it the hard way. I got her done without too much problem. Had to loosen a belt guard bolt over the back pulley to get the belt onto pulley, then tightened it back up. I taped a 1/2 " wrench to a paint stirrer stick in able to get in the tight spot on the inside and hold the bolt. That was the worse part. I learned the hard way. Thanks again Jim in Kentucky.PS we are getting your snow now.

Hey jim the drive belt connects to the fron of the machine Just above the PTO clutch. connected to the vertical crank on the engine. It slips through a series of pullies to the back side od the mower. One pully will be on a tention spring. that is your golden ticket to getting the tention you need.

Looking at the pullys. for routing your new belt. V pullies for the inside portion of the belt and flat pullies for the outside.

You can usualyl take the chassis and pedals off as needed. the pebals have pins holding them on.
the seat has a safty switch that gets unplugged.

There are bolts hidden under the foot map as well which snaps up and down careful with these as that mat will never be the same if you break the clips.

THe back of the mower near and above the gastank you will see a pull thats ontop of a hydrostatic pump thats the last pully.

I have done these before without removing the body. However its not easy and you had better be limber.

Ohh and of course remove any decking under the mower for mowing lawns. =) i hhope this helps if i see a diagram i will try to link you. GL buddy -Jeff in alaska

Check drive belt. has it come off the pulleys or is it broken. They do those things once in a while. Check for broken shear pins in the pulleys as well

Yt 3000 42" will not move forward or backward

Your drive belt might be off or broken (upper one) not the belt that controls the blades. There's a rod at the rear of the mower that also controls the trans-axle, if it's pulled out, the transmission is disengaged. To purge air out of the system, you pull the rod out, keep it in the out position with a pin and move the motion lever to go forward and return it to neutral several times, then do the same thing to the reverse direction. Then release the rod and return it to the very most inner position. GOOD LUCK, hope it's not a bad transaxle.

Mower will shift into forward and reverse gears but not engage. Mower will not run forward or backward.

either your drive belt has failed or your transmission has failed. make sure the drive belt is snug and not broken, do not do this while the engine is running. if the belt is good, then it is new transmission time. they cost more than a good used replacement mower.

My craftmans 46 in cut (22 hp) tractor goes backward after I changed drive belt

If you notice how the belt leaves the motor pully and goes to the transmission, it makes a 1/2 twist? Well reverse that twist and the tractor will go in the correct direction.

Craftsman Transmission problem

Some of these tractors have a friction wheel that is driven off of a flat wheel on the bottom of the engine drive shaft. The rubber ring on this friction wheel could be worn out, or it could be out of adjustment.
