Am I safe to assume your printer is a Hewlett Packard Photosmart 5520? If so, I hope I am also safe to assume you have followed all the steps for the various types of jams as offered in the user manual.

I see the PDF user manual for the HP Photosmart 5520 has links to additional information regarding jams. This is the link to the PDF version of the manual:

The steps for clearing jams start on Page 37 [Image 39] of the PDF document. Look through all the steps, through Page 40. At the end of each section on clearing a particular type of jam, there is a link, "Click here to go online for more information"

Look through the additional information and following the steps provided. In each section there is information on contacting HP for more help.

If you have recently changed one or more of the cartridges you may need to align the print head, the following steps explain the process:
To align printer from the printer display
1. From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon, and then touch Tools.
2. On the Tools menu, touch the down arrow to scroll through the options, and then touch Align Printer.
3. Follow the instruction on the screen.
To align printer from the printer software
On Windows:
a. From the Start menu on your computer, click All Programs, click HP.
b. Click the HP Photosmart 5520 series folder, click HP Photosmart 5520 series.
c. Under Print, double-click Maintain Your Printer.
d. Under the Device Services tab, double-click Align Printheads.

The printer is designed to do that, so you may not have the printer properly connected/linked or may not have the printer driver installed. Check your manual for setup procedures. If you can't get it working, please provide additional info on the problem. What kind of computer do you have? Is this a new installation or did the printer stop working? How is your printer connected to the computer (USB, Ethernet, WiFi)? Can you select the printer from your computer's print dialog? It is difficult to troubleshoot with no contextual info.

From what I can tell from the specs, the 5520 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB and smaller. It won't work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

Have you tried a cold re-boot on printer PC and router worth a try first then check all are on-line and communicating Can you use the PC without the Ethernet cable or a direct cable to the printer just to set it up (Re-set up).

Yes, you usually need a driver for printers. You can get the drivers from the website of the manufacturer of the printer (eg. www.hp.com)
