Kenmore dryer 70 series doesn't always start, sometimes it will just put out a buzzing sound after its been running and trying to restart, will start back up after 20-30 minutes.

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.

Kenmore model # 86470810 buzzes when I press start but won't run

The motors centrifugal switch may be stuck. Try having someone start it while pressing in the door switch while you rotate the drum with your hand by grabbing one of the drum vanes. I don't know which direction your drum rotates. Try both. This may start the drum turning on its own and resetting the switch

I have a Kenmore 66512690 dryer , when i press the start button, I just get a buzz like it wants to go but it does not. Could this be the motor?

Based on the limited details the motor is either humming instead of starting and running or the motor is running but the drum is not turning.

This symptom could indicate:

  • Broken belt if it's blowing air out the exhaust.
  • Faulty motor
  • Jammed drum
  • Loose wiring connection
  • Object or piece of clothing article jamming the blower wheel.
Open the dryer door and see if you can rotate the drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. If it's very difficult to rotate then it could have something to do with the motor or drum glide. If the drum will not turn then something is likely jamming the blower wheel.

I have a kenmore 80 series electric dryer. It gets

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these: Belt Motor Door switch Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time. Click here for a belt installation diagram Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor: Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor. Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Dryer turn on but would not spin

When the dryer will not spin the most common cause is a broken dryer belt.

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

Dryer turns on, but does not run

Try to turn the drum inside with no clothes in it, does it turn freely both ways?

Then as someone is holding the start button, hold the door switch button, then try to turn the drum counter-clock wise, and see if it will start turning on its own.

If it does start turning, then the motor is more than likely the problem.

If it dosen't then the timer is more than likely the problem.
