Check your lamp; it may have blown. Sound, no picture and a red light are classis signs a lamp has failed.

    This is NOT correct. I have a 63" DLP and it has two separate lights. One is for the lamp and the other is for the television itself. I just replaced the lamp in mine last year (260.00 from Mitsubishi). Prior to the lamp going out the picture became darker and darker over time...the lamp light was green, then as the lamp began failing it turned amber and then finally red once the lamp was out...after I replaced the lamp, everything worked fine.

    I'm quite familiar with the lamp issue as I have replaced the light bulb 3 times. This has a new bulb and the light is red not amber. There is sound but no picture and the indicater light is red. Its never done that before.

TV turned off by itself one day. I pressed reset, timer light blinked green for a minute, then I pressed power and it sounded like it wanted to boot up, but nothing happened and the status light turn

Two thoughts:

First is this is a DLP set and the lamp may have failed

Second is it should have the self check which reads error codes---most of these sets that is the same:

" After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
(then release both)

The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected
This is for a earlier Mitsubishi DLP but should be the same as your set as Mitsubishi rarely changes things like this.
If you get the lamp abnormal it is likely your problem.

No picture, siren type noise as restarting

My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?
