The cooling fan wines. How big a job is it to replace?

It looks like a 3 in. box fan. Does the back cover come off and allow access to the fan?

Thank You
Steve

The fan makes a lot of noise, it makes your ears ring after a short time. The tv is great other than the sound of the fan. I would like to replace the fan, but our local repair shop can't give me a price they want me authorize them to spend up to $600.00. At that price I'll just go buy a new TV.

It's probably not actually the fan it may be the color wheel.

If your having the "3 light" problem it could be an indication of a bad lamp however if there is a buzzing or a grinding sound it could be one of two moving parts. The color wheel or the cooling fan. I would go the cheaper route and replace the color wheel first since you say the fan is spinning. The thing is the lamp will not turn on if there is a problem with one of the other two parts. The motor on the cooling fan is too small for such a big fan so I would definately try it next. It's a big problem with the DLP tvs. good luck!

Bulb went out for the 2nd time in less than a year on Mitsubishi WD52327. Also making a loud grinding noise. What is my problem?

the grinding noise is from the cooling fan that cools the bulb. It needs to cleaned or replaced. You will need to take the back cover off the set to get at it. If the cooling fan is not doing its job that would cause the short bulb life and the noise

My televison keeps turning off after being on for about 2 min. bulb has already been replaced.

Sounds like it is heating up on the inside. If you take the back cover competely off you will see that you have 4 fans on the inside, 2 big fans one on each side, one to cool the lamp and either 1 or 2 little fans which are located on the electrical box on left side and sometimes one that is mounted behind the DMD Board which is located behind the engine assembly. Because it is shutting down it tells me that the fan to cool the lamp is faulty. What happens is the fan cools the lamp, if the lamp gets too hot the television shuts down to protect itself from damage. Because AKAI parts are extremely rare to find I recommend not attempting to even turn on the television until you are able to replace the lamp cooling fan. If you see it is spinning it doesnt always mean that it is working because it may not be spinning fast enough. Good luck in finding a fan for it.

I suspect the cooling fan is burning/wearing out. Replaced the original bulb after 15 months of use. After the next 12 months similar noises and issues started again. Solution was to take off the cover for...

the fan has (maybe - check it) a filter screen between it and the outside air... cleaning this filter will increase airflow. cooling fans are really cheap and its a good idea to replace a fan that has had a hard job in a hot environment BEFORE it fails...
sorry, I dont know how to open the door though... maybe you'll have to take the entire case off... then you'll see how the door comes off for next time anyway - if you're "servicing" the set you could do worse than get the case off and clear the dust out.

Whow to replace lamp on tv sony kdf-e60a20

Follow this procedure to replace the lamp:

1. Turn off the power on the main unit. Wait several minutes, then unplug
the power cord.
(The cooling fan will continue to operate for about two minutes after
turning the power off.)

2. Wait at least 30 minutes after unplugging the power cord to allow the
lamp to cool down before replacing it. To avoid being burned, do not
touch the lamp receptacle once the lamp has been removed.

3. Take the new lamp out of the box.
Do not touch the glass portion of the new lamp.

✍ Do not shake the lamp. Vibration can damage the lamp or shorten
its life.
✍ Avoid touching the front glass of a new lamp or the glass of the
lamp receptacle. This may reduce picture quality or lamp life.

4. Loosen the screws on the rear side panel.

5. Remove the front panel.

6. Pull out the lamp.
Loosen the right screw on the cover with a coin or similar object.

Remove the screw from the lamp cover. Pull down the cover toward you.

Unscrew the lamp and pull out the lamp horizontally.

d7faad0.jpg

✍ The lamp is very hot immediately after use. Never touch the glass
portion of the lamp or the surrounding parts.
✍ After it has cooled, place the used lamp into the empty box of the
replacement lamp. Never put the used lamp into a plastic bag.

7. Place the new lamp into its place, then tighten the screw.
Mount the new lamp securely. Failure to mount correctly may cause a
fire or the screen to go dark.

ca93a08.jpg

Push the cover back on. Make sure that the hole on the cover aligns with
the hole on the unit. Reattach the lamp cover by tightening the screw.

5088512.jpg

✍ If the lamp cover screw is inserted incorrectly, the lamp may not
operate properly. In such a case, remove the screw, insert it
correctly and then tighten the screw completely
✍ If the lamp cover is not reattached securely, the self-diagnostic
function may be triggered and the POWER indicator flashes three
times

8. Reattach the front panel securely.

9. Tightly screw the side panel in its place.

That is it. Thank you.

Dear dreadtrainer;

It sounds like your Lamp is going bad. The part # B96-01472A. Go to internet (like Google), enter Model # and Lamp toget your best price. To replace the lamp is easy, look at your 'owner's manual".

I need a convergance chip but don't know where to get it

I learned today on my Mitsubishi VS-60621 (chassis VZ4) there are 3 convergence ICs (3, not just one as previously suggested), all 3 are STK391-020 located underneath the large heat sink on the upper right (as viewed from back of set), above the large PCB with the 6"x10" cover in the middle. The 3 chips are hanging upside down from their heat sink, have aluminum covers over them (so well hidden, it took me hours to find them, not knowing where to look), and the whole heat sink & chip assembly comes out by removing 2 screws, the front one must be accessed by removing the large lower front plastic cover and fiber-board piece behind it. Not necessary to remove the smaller plastic cover and control box above the big one. The big plastic cover has 2 large tabs on the bottom straddling the center post that will still hold it on once the screws are removed, gently pull down on them to release it. Not necessary to remove the glass doors, but probably safer to do so. Good luck!

Cooling fan problem

I had this problem and just turned off the TV and let it cool down. (You should unplug it before opening anyting). I opened the cover over the fan (on the back, near bottom center) and took out the filter. I washed off the filter, made sure it was good and dry, put it back in and turned the TV back on. The filter was quite dirty. I have not had a temperature problem since.
