Before junking your washer, remove the rear panel and be sure the large pulley is tight. If it is, the spinner support is likely broken on the tub assembly. That repair is major and very expensive. Check the pulley with fingers crossed....

it sounds like the spider gear is bad, this is usually from using to much detergent, you can check the shocks but it sounds like the gear is gone.you'll know when it's the gear,it's very loud in the spin cycle, unfortunitly the gear is around 4 to 5 hundred dollars and then there's the labor bill, most likely better off replacing the washer.check out this video and you'll hear the sound i'm talking about....... you either have a broken shock or the spider gear is gone, take off the bottom panel and check out the shocks,if it's the spider gear it's time for new washer,it's around 500 bucks for new gear,to much detergent used over the years eats at the metal

We experienced the same thing. I was able to restart and locate the noise to the water pump. After disassembling the water pump found the impeller shaft sliding out. For some reason this shaft will not stay in place. Had to order a complete pump assembly as the electric motor is not available.

Out of balance condition

I had a Fridadaire model and had the same problem. It could be 3 things. 1- the weight came loose that balances the drum. 2- the bracket that is attached to the drum could have cracked. 3. the bearings to the drum have worn out. All of these problems involve taking the washer completely apart. This is big process, but if you have time and patience it worth it.

Knocking, moving & won't complete spin cycle

you can remove the lower acess panel( 3 screws along the bottom front, form there youll see 4 suspension/ shock absorbers. make sure they are all attached, chances are they dislodhed in the move, they should snap right back into holders if need be.

Loud Knocking

this is a collapsed drum bearing, one of the most costly of the repairs apart from the timer and motor, not normally a job for the diy man unless has an engineering background, sorry, the cost of repair depends on the age and replacement cost of a machine, a bit like a car, would you buy an engine for a 20 year old car, if you have a machine thats expensive then the repair could be worth it? stop running it you will cause more damage both to the clothes and the machine sorry (ps i am a retired appliance engineer of 20 years service)

Knocking Whrilpool Duet

The "cleats" inside the wash tub are actually called "fins". If they are loose try tightening them to see if the sound goes away. You should be able to tighten them from inside the wash tub. Some models have mounting screws that are accessible from inside the wash tub. However, if your machine is knocking like you say it is, it could be sign that one or more of the mounting shocks under the wash tub could be bad, the rear tub bearing could be going bad, or the drive pulley could be cracked or warped. Remove the lower kick plate and watch the shocks during the spin cycle. The shocks should vibrate some, but should not be excessive to the point that it causes an unbalanced spin. To check the drive pulley, remove the 3 screws from the washer top in the rear of the machine. The top should slide back some and then lift off. Watch the drive pulley behind the wash tub during the spin to make sure the rotation is smooth and even. Sometimes one of the arms on the pulley can crack or become bent and cause the pulley to wobble. More than likely, though, the drive belt would slip off. I have also seen where the hole in the center of the drive pulley starts to "round out". The hole is not perfectly round and has to flat sides. Sometimes over time the drive shaft will start to slip around the flat sides, causing the pulley to rattle during the spin cycle. If the rear tub bearing is starting to go, the washer will be very noisy during the spin cycle, and you may start to notice some stains on your clothes if the bearing seal has been breached. You can reach inside the wash tub with the unit turned off. With one hand, push up on the wash tub and release. If you can feel the tub moving up and down (even the slightest) this could be a sign that the bearing is worn out. Now this should be a noticeable metal on metal type feel. Not the normal motion of the wash tub moving up and down from the motion of the shocks. The tub bearing is not a cheap (or easy) fix. The entire back section of the rear outer tub shell has to be replaced, because the bearing is molded into the plastic. Check all the easy things first. Let me know if this helps.
