Sears Coldspot 17 frostless freezer not defrosting

The serial number is 106.628440 and was working fine up to last year. Now it forms a thick layer of ice on the back wall of the freezer. It also does not seem to keep the softer items like ice cream bars etc. totally frozen...but the ice and frozen meats keep.

Yesterday I found the defrost timer is not working properly. I rotated it clockwise until it clicked, putting it into defrost mode. I emptied out everything and took the back panel off over the coils and removed the ice from around the coils. Cleaned up the inside and turned back on...now it seems to be running all the time and the inside temperature is at -5 degrees F. When I adjust the temperature control from 1 to 2 I can hear it click on but the inside fan seems to be running all the time.

Problem ends up with frigerator not getting enough air flow from the freezer flow. Freezer is still cold but frigerator slows air flow. Coils

are freezing up in the middle of the freezer. Took off panels but it

seems to be happening on a faster pace.

One reason for the fan running is that it is trying to distribute the air in the compartment. Look at the very rear of the freezer on the bottom and see if the little vents, which allow water to disperse, are not filled with frozen ice. If so, turn off the fridge (unplug it) and use a hair dryer to melt that ice until it is all gone. That will probably fill the condensation pan under the unit and you'll need to empty it.

I have a 7 year old Kenmore Upright Refrigerator/Freezer on top. I am losing the temp in the fridge part only. The back up the freezer gets a thick layer of ice buildup and when i remove the back panel the...

After you taken the back panel off and see a lot of ice forming on the coil before you use your hairdryer you should locate the timer and turn the center of the timer manually into defrost cycle. If you can see or hear the ice melting then your problem is the timer defective. Change the timer and that is all. But if it doesn't do anything then you will need a little bit more on electrical knowledge to deal with the rest on defrost temperature control and the element itself. Hope this help, God Bless.

REplace the fan. The fan is most likely bent and will continue to have problems until it is replaced. You can get it at repairclinic.com

Kenmore frostless 19 temp. control knob

i've pulled up the service diagram for it and there's no thermostat or temperature control but there's a limit sensor inside the freezer I'm sure that such sensor is failing and when it defrosts, it stays on to long, and the whole 15 min defrost cycles goes on causing the freezer to warm up, delaying the freezing process. I'm almost sure that the limit is going.

Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
