Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool dryer My old Whirlpool LES5720XSNO electric dryer wont run. You can hear the timer and timer motor but when you push the start button nothing happens. I have checked the start button and lid switch with an ohm meter and power disconnected. Both have continuity on high ohms scale when activated or puched. The start button does look burned at the contacts and the clear plastic shell of the switch looks burned. Can the switch be bad and still show good continuity on ohms scale? Thanks for your help. Yes it can at times. It has been my experience. This thing may be falling apart on the inside. Just replace it before it gives you further problem. There is more heat and resistance there at the contacts. While you are replacing it, check the other things as well. It seems like you have a good eye for this anyway.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

Dryer will not start. thermal fuse ohms thru as does the heating element and the thermal cutoff ect. can the motor be jumped to bypass the timer? if so how ? i have no manual or schematic, any idea how to...

Try first by jumping out the door switch. then push the push to start button.
if still dont go on jump out the push to start button.
i replaced one not to long ago.
if still wont start it will be the motor or the timer.
Timer usually you can hear it running making a clock like sound. motor you have to ohm it out and see if it is good. a service manual will have the correct ohms with blk to white, to red, to blue etc. i dont have em
its only in the book. you can do the door sw. and push to start yourself. but sfter that you must decide to i want to spend $300 FIXING THIS ONE OR $300 ON A NEW ONE???

Whirlpool dryer will not start, used to start if I turned timer

whirlpool electric dryer will not start when you push start button. Model No. LER5634AW0. There is power to the dryer. The door switch appears to be working,(didn't check it with a meter). I push the start button, run it through all the cycles and still nothing. Are there any resets or circuit breakers that I could check? Where do I go from here?

OPEN THE DOOR/PUSH THE START SWITCH ON DRYER/THEN PUSH THE DOOR SWITCH/HAVE A PERSON TURN THE DRUM/IF IT STARTS TO TURN (DRUM) OR STILL HUMS AND DRUM WILL NOT TURN YOU HAVE A BAD MOTOR/REPLACE MOTOR.

Whirlpool LEQ8000JQ - My timer ticks but the dryer will not run when start button is push.

More specifically, the timer can be heard running, starts and stops when door is closed/opened, so not likely to be the timer. You have a problem at the motor. A wire off a terminal, the switch on the motor, or the motor itself.

Kenmore dryer not running

Ticking sound is the timer running--so it is not the problem unless a contact has failed or a wire has come loose.  Broken door switch, thermostat failed in open position, or clogged lint filter/exhaust vent/outlet would keep unit from running.  If you can hear the motor running but the drum is not turning then the drum belt is broken.

Whirlpool LER5644A No heat and motor wont Turn

Replace the dryer wires.
Put your meter leads into the 4&5 slots.
Make sure the door switch is closed or jumpered.
Push the start button.
If you read no voltage the issue is with the wiring, the timer, or a relay.
