I recentley recieved a sony xbr which is about 5-6 years old. i tried to hook up my PS3 using the component inputs but when i tried to change the input to component the tv just switches between coax. and DTV it doesnt even cycle through the 7 other inputs is has?? does anyone know what is wrong?
and suggestion would be greatly apperciated! thanks
Go into the menu on the TV and go to the far right under setup. Select "video label" then select "program". A menu will come up listing the 7 inputs. Make sure that the input you are using for your PS3 is not set to "skip". While you're there, set any of the other outputs you're not using to "skip". Your TV/Video button will only cycle through the ones that aren't skipped. Have Fun!

Welcome to Fixya. If you are using component cable on your Ps3 you need to set the input of your Tv to Component Mode. Use the Remote of the Tv look for a Source or Input button then select Component Input.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.
Couple of items come to mind. In the menu of the receiver, is there a way to choose video and RGB? Set the receiver to SAT Connect the HD Cable Box to SAT Check the TV is on Monitor RGB. Check the input being used by the monitor RGB cables is selected on the TV. Have a picture? NO, receiver has issues. Yes? Do this with each input to confirm they work. You can reset the whole receiver to factory by holding the tone button down and holding the standby button for three seconds. (This clears your speaker setups, too.)
The inputs you refer to should be colored as follows. Red Blue Green Red White (not necessarily in this order) These are what are called Component Video inputs and is one of the way that HD capable equipment connect to your television. It will not get true HD picture but this input will provide you with a crisper clearer picture.
I don't have the XBR, but on my sony, using the cable box remote, I had to go into menu/display/etc. and mark the 1080i, 720p, and 480i settings. you usually get a "if you can see this" comment if your tv accepts the settings. for standard tv i set the screen to normal, and when the upper channels go to HD, they auto go to full screen. Sounds like you are using the component cable, and also make sure you are on the video port of remote, and the the TV input. The above worked for mine. Hope it helps.
