SOURCE: FOOD AND DUST BETWEEN THE GLASS

Hello MotoMom,

I have disassembled an insulated door with laminated glass to clean between the layers of glass once and will never do it again (as it took far too much effort and time).

I will suggest trying to get a fair flat rate (not hourly) for completing the task to your satisfaction, guaranteed for at least 1 year. I would also check with other appliance repair shops/technicians (other than just the GE authorized repair), unless it will void any warranty the oven may have.

I hope this helps you, and good luck.

SOURCE: GE EVOLUTION Glass top. The hot surface(Glass top)

Individual burners, located directly under the cooktop glass, contain a temp sensor which lights up the hot surface lamp when they sense a hot condition. If the light stays on after all burners are cool, one of the sensors has shorted out. The sensors are an integral part of the burner, so the offending burner must be replaced to solve your constant on hot light.

SOURCE: Replacing outer glass of oven door

This is glass because glass does not burn, does not melt at oven temperatures, and is a pretty good insulator. Also allows the cook to watch the cake rise.

I would not replace with anything but factor glass. Too dangerous, even regular glass is not properly treated to be safe in this environment.

The cash for clunkers gets extended to appliances soon, perhaps this makes a new one more affordable?

Broken outer door glass

Hi, I don't know where you live, I live in France and here you can simply go to a DIY store and they will cut you a piece of tempered glass to size. Not cheap but may be cheaper than going to the manufactures. I have replaced my woodburner fire glass and that gets alot hotter than your oven outer glass. Hope that is useful

After cleaning the inside of glass door is still dirty? What should I use to clean it?

you need to split the inner and outer door panels, then remove the inner glass pane from between the 2 sections then carefully replace all parts especially if its a self- clean oven type

Glass inside oven door is dirty. Is it possible to disassemble the door to clean the glass?

You can remove the oven door and dis-assemble it to clean it but you are looking at quite a task to do so.. Most of the kitchen aid brand requires two pins to be inserted into the door hinges while the door is in the open position to allow the door to be open. When you have inserted the pins into the hinge start to close the door and the pressure of the hinge spring will be applied to the pins allowing you to now lift on the door removing it from it's slots in the face of the oven. The hinge will slide out of the oven face.

Once you have the door removed you can begin the task of taking the door apart. Lay the door inside part down on a table or counter, remove the screws from the bottom of the door trim (piece that holds lower part of glass) and remove the trim. Now you should be able to slide the outer glass downwards (some models required side trims to be removed also). Now you can remove the handle assembly and then begin to remove the inner door liner and inner glass package.
Be careful and pay attention to screw size/location.
Take pictures at each step to aid in re-assembly!
Good luck!!

How do I replace the shattered glass in my GE oven door

No doubt this is a double paned glass panel. Two panes of glass with a divider strip separating the two for a "thermal break". Okay, you will need to remove the door from the hinges, and along the sides of the door, or possibly under the door gasket, you will find multiple screws that hold the two sandwiched halves of the door together. There should be a front panel, formed sheet steel, and an inner formed sheet steel panel which is coated with porcelin. When you have the front and back halves of the door separated, inside of one or maybe both of the panels you will find the clips, screws, or materials that hold this glass panel in place. Possibly it is in it's own frame, and the frame and glass both remove as one unit. Then it will be a matter of contacting Customer Service and Parts for your product, giving the Model #, Serial # and any other data that may be needed in order to replace the part with the correct one. Since this should be tempered glass, it will be quite heavy and at least 1/4" thick or so. The "thermal break" or space between the panes is so that heat does not transfer readily to the outside panel. Watch for any electrical connections for a door switch for the oven lamp, and be careful when removing the springs which allow the door to close and seal when in the closed position. And it might be helpful to take some photos of the disassembly process so that you can have a reference when you are ready to re-install the door. Be careful when removing the broken glass, and dispose of this carefully. Take your time, be patient, and don't force any thing, and you should be fine. Good lock. Kindest regards, Slats.
