Command mode was changed to DVD1 by mistake and the remote by default is set to DVD3. We cannot use the remote to access system menu and change it back. How can we get the recorder back to default factory settings without the remote?
I have a SONY RDR-VX560. Set command mode to DVD1 and now remote control does not work. I'm trying to access System Menu to restore factory setting which I hope will correct this. Anyone know how to get to this menu without the remote control?

Hi, Since unit has been set on DVD1 remote mode so you need to set remote control itself on dvd1 mode to communicate with unit. Press and hold Enter and 1 numeric key on remote control for 5 seconds, this will change remote control to dvd1 mode, now unit will accept remote control signal and you can operate it normally. Thanks.
Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual! Here's a copy of it (pg 23):
Set the command mode for the remote so it matches the command mode for the recorder you set above. 1 Hold down ENTER 2 While holding down ENTER, enter the command mode code number using the number buttons. Command Mode Code number DVD1 number button 1 DVD2 number button 2 DVD3 number button 3 3 Hold down both the number buttons and ENTER at the same time for more than 3 seconds. 4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!
It´s is easy to solve. Your DVD was seted to DVD1. Push enter button plus 1 no remote control.
Now you are able to commnad your DVD and go to System Menu and change to DVD3 again.
After it, don´t forget to backup your remoto control to DVD3. Push enter button plus 3
Go to your DVR and manually turn the DVR off. Press the STOP button for two or three seconds. The DVR COMMAND MODE setting will display in the DVR window. (DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3)
Set the remote to the COMMAND MODE setting that was diaplayed by depressing both the remote ENTER key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding them both at the same time for 3 seconds.
You can now use the remote to set the DVR to the desired COMMAND MODE. To do this depress SYSTEM MENU on the remote and go to SETTINGS and then COMMAND MODE. Select either DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3. Once you delect a setting that is different from what was set, your remote will stop working again.
Reset your remote to the desired COMMAND MODE by depressing the remote ENTER key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding them both at the same time for 3 seconds. The remote should now control the DVR.
Read page 23 in the manual.
Press "enter" & the #1 keys together for 5 seconds.
Then press stop.
Press "system menu" & change the option back to dvd3.
Then press "enter" & the #3 keys together for 5 seconds.
Press "system menu".
Slide the bottom part of the remote control down. Switch the bottom right button to DVD 1. There might be a white sticker that covers it so remove the sticker first. Then hold down the "Enter" button and the "1" button down at the same time for a few seconds. That should make the remote work again.
