Question about Sony RDR-VX515 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Command mode change disabled remote

Command mode was changed to DVD1 by mistake and the remote by default is set to DVD3. We cannot use the remote to access system menu and change it back. How can we get the recorder back to default factory settings without the remote? I have a SONY RDR-VX560. Set command mode to DVD1 and now remote control does not work. I'm trying to access System Menu to restore factory setting which I hope will correct this. Anyone know how to get to this menu without the remote control?

I have the same problem and tried the enter/#1 key and it didn't work for me.

I had the same problem and holding the enter key and the number 1 simultaneously fixed it. The manual reads select 3 and enter...wrong! Listen to Mike, he was right.

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.

I accidentally changed the command code from dvd3 to dvd1 and now my remote doesn't work, and I don't know how to access the systems menu to change it back.

Hi,
Since unit has been set on DVD1 remote mode so you need to set remote control itself on dvd1 mode to communicate with unit.
Press and hold Enter and 1 numeric key on remote control for 5 seconds, this will change remote control to dvd1 mode, now unit will accept remote control signal and you can operate it normally.
Thanks.

Locked out of the menue ,Need to reset command mode

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

Go to your DVR and manually turn the DVR off. Press the STOP button for
two or three seconds. The DVR COMMAND MODE setting will display in the
DVR window. (DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3)

Set the remote to the COMMAND MODE setting that was diaplayed by depressing
both the remote ENTER key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding
them both at the same time for 3 seconds.

You can now use the remote to set the DVR to the desired COMMAND MODE.
To do this depress SYSTEM MENU on the remote and go to SETTINGS and then
COMMAND MODE. Select either DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3. Once you delect a setting
that is different from what was set, your remote will stop working again.

Reset your remote to the desired COMMAND MODE by depressing the remote ENTER
key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding them both at the same
time for 3 seconds. The remote should now control the DVR.

Remote doesn't work

Slide the bottom part of the remote control down. Switch the bottom right button to DVD 1. There might be a white sticker that covers it so remove the sticker first. Then hold down the "Enter" button and the "1" button down at the same time for a few seconds. That should make the remote work again.
