My fridge keeps freezing. I can't put fresh food in either of the compartments at the bottom of the fridge and now the temperature is getting colder further up the fridge.

Model ED5FHAX - there is a vent coming from the freezer (it appears) on the fridge side above the bottom two crisper drawers. Anything on this shelf will freeze - including water. I can't believe that we aren't supposed to use that shelf but it may be the case.

Hi, We have the same problem, but food freezes on any shelf

I have the same problem and keep getting fobbed of by the manufacturer who says that I am leaving the door slightly open and the only solution is to defrost the unit fully leaving both doors open for 24 hours. I have done this 4 times and it only solves the problem temporarily. I am currently in dispute with Whirlpool who do not want to honour the warranty on the fridge. It's left a bad taste and that's not even taking into account all the mushy wasted food that my bin is - once again - full of!! I'd be delighted if anyone has a fix on this one, it has to be a technical fault as we are NOT leaving the door open!!

Our whirlpool fridge, new Feb 2008, keeps freezing and we unplugged it, this fixed the problem once but it is freezing again. We are wasting so much food. We are about to get an engineer for the first time, let us see what they say. We live in France.

What model and do you have an electronic damper or is this a slider type? The model will tell me the information I need to help you.

Check the compressor with a volt meter, if the compressor is getting proper voltage then check the relay. But this sounds like a problem with the compressor

SOURCE: Freezer not freezing properly, ice on back wall

Ice on the back wall indicates a problem with the defrost cycle. The ice builds up and starts to choke off the air flow, so your symptoms would indicate that may be happening.

Defrost problems are usually any of the three components, the heater element, the defrost termination temp switch, or the defrost timer.

SOURCE: freezer getting cold but not freezing food

Hi,

..I'm not certain here but there are a couple of things we can look at and diagnose. First, be sure that your doors close tightly. If the gaskets leak, this will allow humidity in...that's where ice comes from. If you 'windowshop', this will also cause icing. Now...let's start with a full defrost. This can take about two days with the unit open and off. Once accomplished, the next thing to do is look at the unit itself. First, underneath, is the condenser coil clean? If not, do that. Now, from the back, remove the felt panel covering the lower portion. The big thing is the compressor. If the unit has been off for more than 20 minutes, clean the big pipe off. Now, start the unit. It should develop frost on the pipe which should either freeze up or dry out after 5 minutes or so. Caution: there is a fan in there! If still frosty, you're low on gas and the unit probably has a small leak. The icemaker can be looked at by removing it. It contains a float. If the float is damaged or jammed, it will not shut off...and will overfill the icemaker. Good luck.

SOURCE: Miela fridge freezer freezes food in the fridge

Most likely reason is fridge evaporator sensor faulty. The sensor is screwed to the back wall of the fridge behind bracket next to light and has a green band near the end . The sensor come as a repair kit (part no. 7323301). Just follow instructions in the packet. It is quite straight forward

Refrigerator freezing food.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

This is a drawback of most mini-fridges. Start by defrosting everything. Then fill ice cube trays with water and keep lowering the setting until the water freezes. Just go a little lower, no more. Fridge should not freeze food. If the fridge stays closed all the time food will freeze. Also if the freezer element gets ice buildup it must be defrosted. Not automatic like home fridge. Most kids today weren't born when the last fridges that had to be defrosted were in service.

Ffa70 hotpoint fridge freezer

Adjust the temperature control for the freezer to a normal setting. Fast freeze is only for when new products are put in that need to be frozen. This locks the system into a continuous run mode and could be responsible for the freezing condition in the refrigerator section. Check the temperatures with a thermometer as the sensor for the freezer temperature could be bad causing the light to come on.

Food is freezing

usually there is an adjustment at the back for the difference between the fridge and freezer compartment. Often is just a vane that blocks freezer air, too much air would freeze the food. Normally you set the fridge thermostat for a normal food temp, then adjust the air to keep the food warmer than the freezer.
