I have six Meade ETS-LX 6" telescopes which are used in an introductory astronomy lab. I have upgraded the firmware and other files in three of the six and they are working fine. The other three do...

These scopes have many bugs in the firmware and are not a mature technology. Some people have issues and some do not.

About the only thing you can try is to reload the firmware using the SC CARD method. Contact Meade or read the manual to learn how to upgrade the firmware using an SD flash memory card.

Other than that the scopes will need to be returned to Meade for repair.

Can you repair certain parts of the telescope? is there a place where i can take it to get repairs?

Meade can repair these - call their customer service department here:
http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

Some repair parts can be purchased from Meade but not very many. Meade usually wants you to send in the telescope for most repairs.

Call them at the phone number listed on the above web site.

The focusing knob and the toothed focus rack on the underside of my telescope has disintigrated, I suspect through electrolytic reaction of the different metals. Is there a repair facility in East Sussex...

There are no dealers left in East Sussex who understand telescopes although there are a few dealers selling them as a sideline to their main business.

But just to the north of you in Edenbridge, Kent is Telescope House. They're probably the best specialist telescope supplier in the UK and worth the short trip from where you are. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

From memory, the fault you have is common to a number of Bushnell models so there may already be a repair kit or you may have to replace the entire focusser assembly for one which hasn't been made as poorly as Bushnell usually supply.

I hope that you solve this problem soon as there's some great viewing lately! If my answer has been of assistance please return the favour by rating it.

Meade ETX90 will not tilt; Motor runs, but gears just grind.

I have not been able to find a repair manual anywhere. Nor have i been able to find any repair parts. Dr. Clay Sherrod at the Arkansas sky observatory offers a repair service that is apparently so good that it will increase the value of your scope, it is however expensive. here is the link.
www.arksky.org/supercharge.htm

Also I have found a lot of useful info on Mike Weasner's website, here is that link.
