Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV
Pic and audio suddenly go away, screen blacks out, audio goes away. Cannot make any adjustments, no menu or anything can be done. TV apparently will turn off and on but nothing shows or sounds.
Unplug and let sit for 30 minutes or so and it will turn on and everything seems to be working again, then, suddenly, no picture nor sound. Tried another input to TV with same result.
Since you have already tried a different source of signal, you can be sure that the TV's at fault.
The type of problem you're having is mostly caused by a failing or failed power supply. This may well be mounted on a separate board inside the housing. After removing all the cables attached including the AC cord, remove the rear housing and see if you can identify the power supply; this is not normally too hard, follow the AC input and the supply should be the first board to which it is connected.
If it has an identifiable part number on the board, you can call LG to see if they have an exchange or replacement price that makes sense to you. Boards will often have multiple part numbers; if you see one that clearly could be on a bare board, that may not be the right one. Look for one on a sticker or obviously printed but not as a part of the etching process. There is often also 'revision' numbers along with the basic part number. Both of those should be used to get the correct version for your set.
