My Acer won't play DVD's or music or anything anymore! help!
Hi, I can't seem to get my Acer Aspire 7003WSMi laptop to play DVD's anymore. My laptop is about two years old and it played fine up until about three weeks ago. At first I thought it just needed cleaning, but I have tried that and it still does not seem to recognise any blank DVD I put in to burn, neither will it accept any movie DVD I put in. It tries to read for about 15 seconds, then just goes silent and will not recognise there is a DVD in there! I am at my wits end and just don't know how to fix this, can anyone help?

Optical drives are only made to last for 2 years, that's what I was told by HP when I had a HP laptop. It may have died. Trying looking for a replacement on Ebay, or try just Googling it. You can get good deals on the Internet if you shop around.

Does the laptop play CDs?
If so then when you start a DVD and before you play the movie, go into the audio setting and configure the speakers for laptop stereo speakers.
If you cannot hear music from the CD then check :-
1. The audio settings, volume not set to minimum and mute is not ticked (enabled)
2. Device manager - sound device is enabled and working, if not re-install the sound driver.
The memory is located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. The chips are very easy to replace. Go to the link bellow, it will tell you the max memory and the frequency that your machine will hold. The frequency is very important, it is the type of memory and will be in either pc or mhz, ie.. pc2700, pc4200, pc 5300 etc.. or 266mhz, 333mhz, etc.. Make sure you buy the right frequency memory or it won't work.
