I am trying to finalize a disc and I can see the Finalize option within the menu but cannot select it.
I'm wondering if I did something wrong during the DVD initialization process that has caused this. The users manual doesn't have a troubleshooting section for this problem - only directions on how to finalize.
I have tried Finalzing with the camcorder plugged in and this still does not work.
I have the same problem with my camera DC100.

Either the disc is already finalized or there isn't enough space on the disc for finalization. Check if you have Auto-finalize enabled. Press Setup and go to the line "General Settings" with the up/down arrows. Press Enter. Then select Recording and Enter. Go to the Auto Finalize line and press Enter. Check both Disc Full and End of Timer Rec and see if these are set to On or Off. This option is explained on page 27 of the manual (page 29 of the PDF available from Funai Service http://www.funaiservice.com/manuals/SYLVANIA/ZC320SL8/ZC320SL8.PDF ). Remember that the finalization takes 20-50 MB on the disc.
To finalize the disk:
Select MENU --> then select: DISC OPERATIONS
then select: FINALIZE
then select: YES ... to go back to MENU
During the disk finalization, a progress bar is displayed. Close the MENU only AFTER the screen display returns to the DISC OPERATIONS menu
It should be a menu option. Press [FUNCTIONS] button on remote to access on-screen menu, then press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to select 'other functions' and press [ENTER] or [OK] depending on your remote. Then using the menu, enter your disc name, etc., then with the UP or DOWN arrow buttons again, select [FINALIZE] - this should make (example DVD-R) the disc - compatible playback ONLY for all players. You are basically looking within the on-screen menu for 'finalize' option. You should get a popup dialog asking you if you would like to finalise the disc - if you choose 'yes' the operation will begin.
Do you have the instruction manual? if so, refer to page 30 - 32 - disc management. I hope this helps a tiny bit. If you don't have the manual, you can download it as a .pdf free.
http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRES10.pdf = download this if you do not possess the original operation instructions.
To finalize a disc: First make sure that you left enough space after recording to the disc. Press Stop or Disc-Menu (during playback). Select the first title with the Up arrow or Stop. Then press the Up arrow to get the Disc Information. Then press the right arrow to enter Settings For. Then use the up/down arrows to select Finalize disc and select OK to confirm.
This option will only be available for unfinalized discs that were recorded to by this DVD recorder. If the disc was created on another unit you may be able to finalize it with the Finalize feature in the main menu. (Tools (icon has a hammer and a wrench) > Features).
Select DVD drive, use right navigator and look for DVD management page under other functions. That should offer you a finalize disc choice.
Or if disc is not full, try adding one more file small enough to fit, and finalizing should be automatic. Your disc may not be able to be finalized if your EH 55 didn't create it in the first place.
I replied you in premium post as well. here is with details...
Be sure to use the AC adapter to power the DVD Video Camera when finalizing a DVD-R disc. Finalization cannot be executed using a battery pack. Now you will see finalize option in menu and can select it to finalize disc.
