Screen goes on and off

I have a Gateway 610 all in one media center. The monitor comesw on then goes off. Possible video card problem? Is the video card a seperate piece or part of the mother board?
Thanks!

I, too, have a [2004 built] Gateway 610XL Media Center which screen has just started flashing slowly to moderately quickly. I had this issue when the machine was still under warranty, about three years ago, and Gateway had me return the machine so they could "re-seat" the something-or-other (I don't remember now and am away from the machine) and I've had no more problems since - until now.

I recently moved the machine because of a furniture change and wondered if I'd jostled something but it was fine till now. One speaker started making static noises but a post here helped me resolve that. It sounds like the 'flashing' issue is a bit more complicated to resolve.

the way to tell is your video adapter it on-board or seperate is to look at the back of the unit. The on-board video will be next to the mosue, keyboard,USB ports. If you have a video adapter, it will be in one of the card slots.

This is a well known issue with gateway media centre and there is no easy solution for this problem. If you are an expert in tearing apart the system and putting it back, then this LInk has some options which have worked to many people.

I have a gateway gt4015e. When I turn the power on the screen does nothing just stays black. This is a windows media center 2005 machine. Please help

Make sure the computer and the monitor both have power going to them and that they are both on.
Make sure that the cable from the computer to the monitor is connected firmly. You have to determine if you are using a video card or on board video (video built into the motherboard). If you have two ports to plug into on the back of the pc make sure you are plugged into the right one. Try to use the monitor on another computer or a different monitor on that computer to see if you can isolate it to one or the other.Could be a bad cable, video card,or monitor. You should try to test the devices to narrow it down.

I need to know what graphics card to use to update

The Gateway 610 uses an AGP graphics slot so any video card with AGP hookup should work fine. The link below is to a parts site for this computer.

My PC Gateway Media Center 820 will not post. Shows only a monitor test box on the screen. Fans are running. For awhile it would still operate sometimes and do this sometimes. Now only this. A friend says...

It could be the graphics card, try another power supply, somtimes the power begins to fail and not pump out enough to start the pc properly, so before changing the graphics try the power supply.

You could take the cmos battery out for 30 secs and then try to reboot the mechine.

Gateway 610 Media Center

I would then suspect the monitor.
Sounds like the video card is working.
Try another monitor to see for sure.

Monitor is black...checked all connections..OK. Turned computer off and back on,still no screen. HELP!!!

The first thing I would do if possible is hook up another monitor to the computer to see if that one works. If it does, then your monitor has gone bad. If it doesn't work either, then your video card has gone bad. Did you hear any beeps when you started up your computer? If you did, then this usually means there is something wrong with the video card. Also, sometimes the power button is turned off. Are there any lights lit at all on the monitor and are they green or yellow?

Screen goes off showing VGA with cable on the screen

This looks like a bad cable connection. Try using a new cable for the connection between the computer and monitor. If that does not work test you computer on another monitor to make sure you are getting signal output from the video card. Also check the monitor on another computer. This is to check and make sure the monitor is working properly. You can also try using a add on video card in the computer to see if you can use the monitor this way.If you still are having problems. You can use this web address to get customer from Gateway. http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1013953/1013953nv.shtml. I hope this helps you with your problem.

How do I change the video card in my 610XL PC?

After the side of the case is opened and the computer unpluged and the video to the monitor unplugged, if it has a card already installed , remove the screw holding the card down then pull the old card straight up out of the card slot. Align the new card that you purchased , pushing it straight down into the slot. Install the hold down screw. Reinstall the side . Install the software after hooking  the computer and monitor up.   If you don;t jknow which type of card ,down load a manual and maybe even further instructions from the weblink I provided.

Below it the Gateway support center for your model. All you have to do is to put in your 22 digit serial number.

Gateway Media Center PC is on, but there is no picture.

I have been fixing one for a customer. At first I thought that it was the typical burned out powersupply. Delta Electronics has created a replacement. The old REV 00 is 185 watts peak. The new REV01 is 185 nominal. Was the shaggy067 did not take the time to look up is that the 610 is an "All in one" modular monitor/case.
This customers is the first one that I have replace the power supply and it still does not work. I believe the flourescent backer of the LCD is shot. I will not know for sure until I find another one. The S-video works fine, so I am testing it using my projector. Everything works except the lcd panel.
