Hi! This is the suggested solution from rylee_smith. - So, how do I proceed: uninstall all USB, restart the PC with the Windows original CD in the CD reader ? Any point to consider in doing this ? / Best Regards Anders

If the other USB port does not work you want to uninstall the USB and reinstall.

  1. Hit Start
  2. Hit Run
  3. Type "devmgmt.msc"
  4. Go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and Uninstall the one that is not working or all of them.
  5. Your mouse or keyboard may not work now
  6. Reboot the computer and it will automatically reinstall them upon startup
Good luck!

This is not a matter of drivers, test the USB memory on a different computer, if you get same message, then memory is faulty and data inside is lost.

Try formatting the memory, you will lose all your data, but you will be able to use the memory again.

Sounds like you are using Vista or Xp SP 3
This is an error generated for an unreadable file system.

This can usually be fixed by going to my computer and right clicking on the usb drive and selecting Run in compatability mode.

The only other way is to reformat the raw to Fat or Fat32 (doing this will erase all the data though)

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem could be:

  • the USB port of your home PC (hardware not the drivers). Have you tried all other ports? Have you tried any other USB devices such as the printer, web/digi cam?
  • possible virus, have you performed a scan?
  • does the home PC makes any acknowledgment sound when the Kingston is plugged in? If not, then the PC does not even know it is there. Same cable used?
  • Was any recent update on the home PC done? Could you try a restore?
Pls post back result(s). Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Welcome to Fixya! In addition to the Drivers, Try Start, Search, Locate the Storage Device in the Drop Down Menu (Usually at the Bottom of the List), Search all Files and Folders and Click the Hidden Files also. It may just Pull it up without the Driver. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

This could be a core system issue with your home OS. if you have a registry cleaner, i suggest you use this and, a registry defrag wouldn't hurt as well after the cleansing. this should fix the problem.

If the USB is working at your work so meaning the problem here is with the USB port of your computer at home, first try to connect it on a different port on your computer propably the USB at the back and then check if it will be detected now by your computer.

For that go to control panel-> systems-> click on hardware tab-> go to device manager-> in bottom usb controllers would be there, uninstall the drivers.Restart the system. And, then insert drivers & utilities CD and it will auto detect the usb drivers.

Ok try to plug it to the USB port at the back of your CPU usually USB port at the back of the CPU supply sufficient power to the device that was plugged in that port so it functions properly cause a USB device plugged to a USB port w/ low or insufficient power supply in that device may cause the device not to work properly that's the reason why your flash drive wasn't recognize by your system. Also that is the reason why you can't view any file in your device.

for usb drive with capacity above 4 GB , the most common problem is lost partition, for geeting the patition again you should create it manually with partition tools software like, acronis , magic partition or etc, that support to read usb partition. you could find it all within hiren's boot cd if you had one.

The computer does not accept the Kingston usb!

Kingston is a decent brand device. Does the port recognize the device and is just unable to install drivers? Does the USB port work for other devices? Have you tried other ports? Go to device manager (start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager). Are there any rec X's? Any yellow asterisks? Fix whatever you find. These are just some hints that I hope will help you find your problem. I assume your device is a jump drive. You might try another also... perhaps yours is faulty.

Hi

Sounds like you may have removed it from sytem without ejecting first and this has caused a mini surge. You can try taking it to a reputable computer shop that specialises in data recovery but there is a good chance the device has had its day.

Sorry

DT mini Slim 4GB not working

run this command:

c:\format xx:\ /FS:FAT32 /A:4096

Substitute "xx" for the drive letter that windows gives to the Kingston DT Mini 4GB.

It worked for me after using it as a Jolicloud Live Bootable USB.

Hi khurramrkt,

From the link below, locate your Data Traveler and download a new copy of the security software for it. Use the new copy to access the private zone which is probably where the missing 2GB is at.

Mobo reads less ram than windows

possible that you have incompatible mem installed, the archictecture of the mem could be 32mb x 64bit could mean that the "BIOS" may only be able to see 32Mb x 8 which to me suggests that this is not the correct mem for this Motherboard, is this mem recovered from another system or an old board. Try Kingston.com and use their memory configurator to find the correct mem for your motherboard (enter the MB manuf and model)
