Question about Tascam US-144 Sound Card

Tascam 144 sony acid pro 6 no sound from midi track

I have a tascam 144 and using it with sony acid pro 6. We hooked up everything correctly. The midi tracks are picking up or recording the notes that are playing but no sound is coming out of the speakers from my computer. We cant hear anything. We used 5 pin male din to 5 pin male din shielded midi/ din cable or audio cables. Both are the same. When I play the synthiser there is a red light that also comes on midi In on the tascam 144. Could you help us with the no sound ? I keep thinking maybe the cables are both the same instead of midi out and midi in. There both black cables that dont say anything on them to let you know if they are midi in or out. Does this matter? We got them at radio shack.lol
Thanks!
:)

It sounds like you may be confused on what the MIDI part actually does. MIDI records your performance, not your sound. Then you assign and play back the recorded performance to either a virtual instrument (in which case you should here sound from your computer) or to a real physical MIDI capable instrument (in which case you would here the sound coming from that real instrument instead of the computer).
The ends of the MIDI cables themselves are identical, not IN or OUT.

Have you clicked the little "monitor" icon (looks like a speaker) on the armed audio track so that it goes orange? Once on, you should see a signal on the VU meter (assuming the line in has a good signal etc). Once recorded, turn the monitor off again to listen to the track with all the others.

Do I have to have a sound card or module hooked up to my tascam 144 to the computer to make sound register coming from my keyboard?

Yes all the things which are connected with sound, they want to start first sound to achieve our sound.
In this condition please reset or install your sound driver.
If you have had then try with your sound card edited in your motherboard.
If these condition may not work to cooperate then try with the new sound card by editing.

TASCAM 144 is not a soundcard, but an audio interface

You are correct, there is no "voice generator" within the Tascam US-144.  It can simply transmit the very primitive note-on note-off type data to a Sound Module or keyboard (like a Roldan SoundCanvas), and then that would generate the actual waveforms.
A SoundCanvas would suit your needs well, as you could run the midi out to this voice generator, and then run the stereo output of that back through the Tascam and into the computer for recording.

What cables for yamaha keyboard psr295 to connect with tascam 144

There are different options depending on what you want to achieve. If you want to send only MIDI data to your PC (for example, to run a VST instrument), then you can use a standard MIDI cable to connect the "out" on your keyboard to the "in" on your Tascam. You should also be able to use the Yamaha USB cable to connect directly to your computer, which would then bypass the Tascam (still giving you the same outcome, but without the need to buy any extra cables.
However, if you want to send the audio data (i.e. the actual sound) of the keyboard to your PC, you would simply use a standard guitar lead from the line out of the keyboard into the line in (both, if your keyboard has stereo outs) of your Tascam. This will eliminate any need for VST instruments, as you will be recording the audio signal directly.

Tascam midi and audio conflict error

Hi,
First try turning off the onboard audio device using the BIOS interface. Try pressing f4, f2 or delete key rapidly at the flash screen beginning when you first turn on the computer. Look around in the bios (usually in "integrated periperals" area) and disable any onboard audio options that you see.
-In windows XP you can go to Control panel - Sound Devices and change the "map through" feature, select your default device, and run a hardware test simulation with a microphone for each device. Nice setup btw.
