EMachine Floppy Drive Flopped??

EMachine T1090 Floppy Drive Just quit...Device Mgr, Says that it and the Controller are working fine, Unfortunately when I put in a Diskette, and Right Click to Format. I get: ''Insert Disk into Drive A'', No ''On-Light'' either..Have UnInstalled Both Drive and Controller and Re-Installed, still does the same thing. Have UnPlugged the Connections, Cleaned, and Plugged back in, still Nothing... is it Toast??

If you are comfortable with opening your machine, you should power down, open case, disconnect the eide cable and power cable from drive. Reconnect both, close case, and power the machine back on. Allow Windows to recognize as new drive.
You could also try updating the drivers under Device Manager as well.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "eMachineSupport" or "Gateway" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Your t1090 will only accept a maximum chip size of 256Mb and so it will not accept the added the 512mb chip as it cannot handle it. 512 is the maximum size of RAM for this machine but unfortunately you cant put it in in one go

Device manager says floppy is working but on boot it shows problem recognizing drive and the floppy drive will not run a diskette or format one


the floppy drive in the device manager refers to the controller on the board, NOT the drive itself. if the controller on the board can SEE the drive, Windows says its fine. Id suggest a new drive. theyre only about 20 bucks, and easy to install. I'd order a new floppy cable as well (just to be sure). Those are usually only an extra dollar if you buy it online in one shipment.

Does this have a cdrom?


YES, it has a 48x CD ROM drive.

It is not a burner.

You can play music read data from the CD, but you cannot burn CD's or DVD's.

Search for your type of computer (desktop/portable),

Dvd wont work


if its the ribbon cable itll tell you when you first turn the computer on. try going to setup in bios and see if it reads it there. i had a problem like this, i tried to have a dvd drive and a cd-rw drive together. i read on the dvd drive that it can be the only drive installed so i took the other one out and it worked fine.

If it is a new machine the chances are it doesn't have a floppy drive, they are becoming quite rare these days since they perfected bootable CD's
