My computer does not switch on when the graphics card power supply is plugged in, it used to work fine until I removed the fan to clen the heatsink. Then I plugged it in and started up the pc, It switched off after about a minute then didn't start up until I unplugged the power supply to the graphics card then there was a bit of smoke from the card.

If you had smoke thats not a good sign
after you cleaned fan and heatsink do you properly
replace anything you may have removed.
The card is more then likely blown i would replace and not try to use it
please don't forget to rate me

You dont need any special driver. The windows7 update will include the updated ATI driver.

Anyway, if tou need any additional driver, goto

From your post, it seems like Windows is booting correctly, but your card isn't correctly displaying the signal once the machine tries to load into your user profile.

Go into Safe Mode and uninstall the drivers for the card. Go back to the beginning of the installation process and follow it step-by-step. If this does not help, try inserting the card first, and then installing the drivers afterwards.

Any AGP model geforce should work. The newest models offering agp are the 6XXX series. Just be careful as they come in both PCI-E and AGP models. You want AGP of course..
