If only one function on the Remote works it probably needs repair of some sort. Remotes are delicate things which can easily be damaged or broken by dropping them, or by spilling fluids such as soft drinks over the keypad. Unless the set has front panel menu buttons and the on-screen menu allows you to select the source, the answer is "no, you can't switch without the remote". If the original remote is really broken, you may be able to use an RCA-brand universal replacement that has an "input" or "source" button. Unless the original is physically damaged, before you toss it check the battery contacts inside. They sometimes get loose from handling the remote a lot and don't make good connections. Also make sure the new batteries are fresh and facing the right way.
