2005 Fat Boy will not start

The bike was idiling and it just died. When I went to re start I got nothing. When I turn the ignition on nothing happens, the fuel pump/injector does not even kick on nor do the headlights. The battery has been tested and is good and full of juice. It does not even try to turn over. When you hit the start button nothing happens.

Please help.

My 2000 fat boy is back firing real bad when you give it the gas, really loud and blue flames. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them and its worse.I also replaced the gas with 91 octane.

check your coil connections it sounds like a coil misfire ignition module or its connector would be my next stop also if your bike still has the cam sensor behind the point cover not sure what year they changed that but if youll pull that cover and its not just an empty hole then your looking at the pickup coil or camsensor call it what you will but its a very likely culprit

Check you battery terminal connections. Can't think of any other reason that the rear light should be fluttering. If battery is tight then trace through your circuit breakers with a test light.

Ignition fuse blows

You have a short in your electrical system, the hair pulling part is finding it. Since it is the ignition fuse that blows only, I would first try to bypass you ignition switch, other words find the wires that goes to the base of the ignition switch unhook them replace fuse, use a wire or piecie of then metal
to make the connection, if the fuse blows its not that switch, try the next one, so fourth on all electrical parts connected to the ignition. Hopes this helps.

Motorcycle wont start

Check the battery connections, especially if you hear a click just before it goes dead. I know that on my bike, when this happens, the screws that hold the battery cables in place have backed out and not getting a good contact. You would think that with a bad contact that it would stay dead when you turn the key off then back on, but oddly, everything comes back on normally until I hit the starter button. Check the cables.

Map sensor

Hi,

Have not worked on an HD but my thoughts and additional guesses would be:
1. fuel contamination (water at bottom of tank);
2. primary pump (in my case it was inside the fuel tank & might not be present in your bike);
3. fuel lines & clamps to & from primary pump or to the carbs;
4. in line filters;
5. vacuum controlled fuel valve (oppose to the usual manual petcock)
6. if it were the MAP sensor, bike wouldn't even run a block away + idling would be rough;
7. by chance are you using a Power Commander?

Also your post "bike will start and run fine for a few blocks then die" indicates that indeed fuel got into the carbs before but not when running meaning the bike used what was inside the bowl and was not replenished.  Alternately, the fuel flow to the carbs might not be sufficient and there is a leak or a blockage somewhere.

As said might not work for your bike but has come across some of the above on numerous occasions.

Good luck and Kind regards.

Ride Safe.
