Can not insert disk into imac

Assuming of course the iMac is otherwise running and functioning normally, this would indicate that the drive has gone bad. Usually, when you first turn on the computer, you'll hear the drive make a sound. If this is not happening, either there is a disk stuck in it or the drive is defunct. visit this page for some tips on ejecting a stuck disk. If that does not work, you will need to replace the drive.

Everytime i try to boot it comes up with boot failure insert system disk, this is accompanied with clicking noises, i can hear it trying to boot but not succeeding. i do not have a system disk.

Hi, Helen.

I hope this helps you out in knowing what is going on.

When the computer tries to boot up, you said you hear clicking noises, well, this is the drive trying to access the boot sector of the drive.
If it just keeps clicking, and doesn't boot, then you most likely have had a hard drive failure.
Unfortunately, there is no easy fix for this, other than get a new drive for your machine.

At least drives nowadays aren't as expensive as they used to be, not even close.
A new drive only costs around $50 for a 500GB sata drive, that's pretty cheap considering that just 3 years ago the same drive was well over $200.
Most major retail outlets carries drives nowadays, even WalMart carries them.
You will have to reinstall everything on to the new drive though, unless you take the old drive to BestBuy, Fry's, Staples, or CompUSA.
They are the major electronics stores that have actual trained staff for data recovery services.
They can do their best to get all your old info off of the bad drive for you.

I hope this help you out on knowing what's going on, and good luck to you.

Try cleaning the laser lens with alcohol and a Q-tip. If this does not work then the burner is tired.

Player shows '' No Disc'' even when inserted with a disk

When player says no disk, even if the disk inside, and you hear a whirring and clicking noise when you insert a disk, that means that the CD lens is dirty or defective, and the CD drive cannot read the initial CD track, and returns no disk.

Try first using a CD cleaner disk, if that does not work, then you will need to take the apart the unit to clean lens with isopropyil alcohol and cotton sticks.

Does not read the disk

If when you insert the disk you hear a whirring and clicking noise, CD spins, and does not read, then that is a problem with the DVD lens.

The DVD lens try to focus on the DVD track, by moving lens pickup and spinning the disk, but cannot read the tracks because the lens is dirty or defective.

Try first cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaner disk. And also if you can see the lens from the outside try blowing some canned air on it.

If this still does not help, then the lens pickup may be faulty, in this case you often replace the whole DVD drive unit inside the DVD player.
