Washer stops after agitation, open and close lid and it continues
Hi guys, have a Whirlpool LLR9245DQO that does fine until it gets to the end of the first agitation cycle, it does a quick start to empty for the next cycle, then stops. When I open and close the lid, twice, it then continues. Sometimes have to do that a few times for it to kick in. Not sure if it is a lid switch or the timer. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi, I'd like to help diagnose your problem but I may need a bit more information. Based on what you stated, I assume you have a top loading WHR washer with an electromechanical timer... the kind that you turn and it clicks. Anyway, you stated that the washer stopped in the middle of the cycle and that simply opening and closing the lid would fix it for a while. I suspect that your lid safety switch may be cracked and isn't being actuated by the plunger on the lid. If this is the case, the washer would function properly until it reached the point in the cycle where it should spin. Then it would stop at that point in the cycle. This makes sense that opening and closing the lid might "fix" it for a while. Also, if the switch got bad enough that opening / closing the lid didn't work anymore, you could rotate the timer dial just past the spin area and the cycle would continue. Have you noticed the clothes are wetter at the end of the cycle?
Anyway, check the lid switch first and then repost if you rule it out.
if the washer is full of water and will not continue it needs the lid switch replaced : the lid has to be closed so the washer will agitate and spin the lid switch is under the lid on the right or rear left
sounds as if perhaps a wire is off on the side of the motor assy, l;ook at he wiring harness, sometimes a "chugging " noise occurs form the motor when one of the harnesses is not attached. and yes its normal to wash with the lid open, not to spin however( thats a saftey issue)
sounds like a lid assy issue, can you hear a "clicking" just before the lid is closed, try opening nad closing a few times listening for a distinct "click" if not the machine doesnt think the door is closed and for safety reasons wont spin and drain.
