You may try to check
1) check your cover sensor touch position, the sensor mostly location at down way of the hinge, using a screw driver go down that way, you can heard a sound like microsiwtch click, you have to reinstal it if no click sound heard, or open the side cover check it if the switch ok and still not fixed go next
2) check the micrositch works status using mltimeter, it will be connection when click it. no connection the siwtch damage, need to adjust or change it

If the hinge pins were bent the lid is now out of alignment. Remove cover and realign.

One side of the printer will not close

The hinge underneath could be broken the only way to fix this is to remove the plastic hinge.. You will need to unplug the printer and examine it, the broken hinge is likely to be impeding the lid from closing,

Printer message cover open

There is no replacement part available from Dell. Temporary fix is removing the hinge spring under the small concave white plastic piece (you can remove that also) allows the cover to close. The nub under the cover has to press a "lid closed" switch which is not possible if the lid hinge is broken.

Lexmark 7600 printer cover is not seating properly after installing printer cartridge

The two hinges are attached to the back of the printer by two screws. I removed the two screws and lifted the top off, freeing the two hinges (the one on the right was broken so part of it stayed in the printer). There is a restraining line on the right side that keeps the top from coming completely free of the printer, but it can be worked around while still attached. I removed the broken pieces and the internal spring from the right side hing. The spring is what was keeping the top from seating correctly. I assume you could order a new hing, but I reassembled the printer without the spring and the top seated properly. The printer works, but I will now need to be very careful when replacing the ink cartridges because of the missing hing on the right side.

Hp deskjet printer 6840 wont print .keeps on saying top cover is open when it is actually closed.

Pop off the right side cover - it is just held with clips. At the hinge, you will see that the cover switch arm that is supposed to move up and down as the cover opens & closes (in the slot in the geared hinge) is probably broken off. It is in the up position when the lid is closed, and down when the lid is open. I cut the shaft of a Q-tip to length and wedged it into the space to keep the cover switch up all of the time and still allow free movement of the lid.

My printer says doc cover open on a mfc 8820d how should i fix.

You have to close the ADF. If the ADF is closed, then the left hinge is probably broken. Look for "MFC-8820D hinge" to find the solution in FixYa.

HP 3210 All in One Printer Lid

Carefully and I mean carefully spray some WD-40 into the elbows of the hinges. Carefully work the lid down and up until it is . Do not overspray into scanning area. Cover with a towel if necessary.

Doc cover open

Yes there is and I know your problem have a look at the left hinge on lid that you lift to put down an original for copying, it will be breaking apart, the switch is black in that same corner on doc feeder base, as the hinge breaks apart the doc feed lifts in that corner causing "doc cover open" cause that switch no longer gets pushed in when lid is shut

Dodgy repair - tape switch closed, but doc feeder will not work properly/can use glass.

Repair - Easy removal of three screws and replacing 20buck hinge bought from brother dealer...part no.LE8731001 Hinge assy left.

Now that's FIXYA!
