Question about Dryers

Heavy loads (e.g., jeans, etc) is tripping the circuit breaker

Our 10+ year old Whirlpool Model LE6880XS electric dryer has recently started to trip the circuit breaker within the cycle of drying heavier loads such as jeans and blankets. The dryer is on its own circuit and, as stated, this just started happening. The vent is clear. Troubleshooting this via various sites have the problem cause ranging anywhere from the dryer power cord to the heating element. I am seeking out a way to limit the focus. It may come back to just giving up on this dryer and getting a new one even though this model has been dependable. At one time we did bring a new one in and the new one never did work right so that was returned, and I fixed up this ''old'' one with new rollers and belt some years ago.

WOW, 10yrs was a good investment of your money. Anyhow large amp loads may be contributed to the motor or fatigued heating elements. Also the breaker can wear out if its ran loaded for extended periods. Here are a few things you can try. Check to ensure that the barrel sleeve rings are in good condition so that there would be less drag on the motor and fix the obvious. Then change your breaker out and change the electrical outlet. if your not comfortable with changing these two items DON'T DO IT.
TIP OF THE DAY--To reduce the suction draft and drying time your drier and save some cash, remove the lint catcher and take it to the sink. Run water into it, if there is excessive pooling of the water (water not running straight through) then fabric softener is fouling the lint screen. Use a small brush and dish detergent to clean it and then shake off all the water and dry the screen. Remember this tip on future driers and you will make the dryer blower motor last much longer. :?) Whirlpool frontload dryer trips circuit when started all of the sudden. Gas dryer, replaced circuit, must be dryer

The dryer should be on a dedicated circuit. Is anything else on the same circuit? Try plugging the dryer into a different circuit and see if it still trips the breaker. The breaker trips because there is either a short or too much power is being drawn for the size of the circuit. Check how many amps the dryer uses, and make sure the circuit is rated for that load. If the dryer needs a 20 amp circuit, and the circuit it is plugged into is only a 15 amp circuit, that will trip the breaker.
If all that is good, there is a problem with the dryer, either a short or the motor is drawing too much power, which usually means it is at the end of it's useful life and need to be replaced. If you are handy, there are sites you can go to which will show how to remove the motor. There are appliance parts stores which will test your motor, and sell you a new one if you need one. I have a 30 year old dryer that still runs, with it's 4th motor and 5th belt, if you are handy. The cost of a repairman to come out is probably not worth it after the dryer is about 10 years old, better to replace the dryer at that point. The new ones are much more energy efficient and do a better job than the older equipment, so they are worth the investment.

It's possibly the circuit breaker rather than the dryer itself. Usually when it trips, it is overloaded or shorted. Overload can be a result of a loose connection or a bad heating element, when you remove the old breaker, see if it has some noticeable burn/corrosion marks where the wire is screwed down, I think replacing the breaker will fix the problem. Hope this helped Tim

Circuit breaker trips after 10 minutes

could be a weak breaker,or poor high resistance connection from panel to dryer plug, then have someone check the current draw on the dryer while operating and see if it's within specs of the machine tag, if it's higher than that you may have a defective motor or heating element to case causing a higher than normal current draw

Breaker keeps tripping when I use Amana NED5500TQ electric dryer.

Heating element or motor. Usually heating element. Replace limit switch (inside dryer) during repair. Limit switch should shut off before breaker if working correctly.

After repair clean or replace plug/wire. Inspect or replace receptacle in wall.

HE4 Kenmore Dryer tripping Circuit Breaker

If you put a light load in the dryer will not trip the circuit at all. That means heavy load made the motor work harder and over heat, it going to trip the circuit , pretty soon, the motor will be warn out.

Whirlpool electric dryer keeps tripping main circuit breaker

First off, be sure the pigtail is wired correctly to the back of the unit. Black and red to the outside terminals, white to the middle, green to the frame or cabinet (should be a green screw close-by). If that is ok, you probably have an issue with possibly a bad pigtail, bad outlet, wiring issue, or possibly a bad circuit breaker or breaker box. Probably going to be more of a electrical problem than a appliance problem. Good Luck!!!!

Whirlpool Electric Dryer Won't Start

Your dryer has a non-resettable "thermal safety fuse" part number 3392519 which stops the machine dead when the temperature near the heater gets too high. Typically a restricted vent system causes this so you definitely want to check that before replacing it. A failed control thermostat can also cause this so check the operating temp too.
