We bought one in 2007 as part of our new home and it also melted! We were lucky though as it was still under warranty. I have never had a dishwasher melt on itself like that. Ours was not part of the recall. Our issue was a chip that went bad and a module assembly that had to be replaced. Works fine ever since. WIll probably not replace it with another GE though once it goes.

There was a recall on some GE dishwashers, but yours was purchased a bit before those affected. Just to be sure, go to http://www.geappliances.com/products/recall/dw07/ and input your full model and serial number (including the last letter of the serial number). Of the models affected by the recall, I've personally seen (and have photos of) one that burned, plus one that was close to it. Recalled ones can be updated for free, or if you decide to replace, qualify for a rebate toward a new GE dishwasher. (the recalled ones had problems with the wiring inside the door) If your model is not one affected by the recall, I would contact GE customer relations via their answer center phone (800-626-2005) to report this potential safety issue.

Leaking around heating element posts that protrude through dishwasher body

Some dishwashers like your model number are under recall for a potential fire hazard due to water leaking through the heating element posts onto the wiring.
Your serial number must begin with the 2 letters listed . Below is the list of recall serial numbers: FL, GL, HL, LL, ML, VL, ZL, AM, DM, FM, GM, HM, LM, MM, RM, SM, TM, VM, ZM, AR, DR, FR, GR
Call the phone # below or check out GE recall website. What GE does is replace the element and gaskets, unless there is burnt or arcing visible on the wires, they may replace the dishwasher.

www.geappliances.com/products/recall
GE has determined that an electrical failure in the dishwasher's heating element can pose a fire hazard. GE will provide a free repair to all consumers with units affected by the recall. We ask that you not use your dishwasher until it is repaired and to disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire.
Consumers who instead wish to replace their dishwasher with a new model can receive a rebate towards the purchase of certain new GE and Profile brand dishwashers. Consumers can use a rebate of $75 for the purchase of certain GE front-control plastic tub dishwashers, or a GE rebate of $100 for the purchase of certain GE front-control stainless tub dishwashers or GE Profile top control dishwashers. See the rebate form for eligible models.
GE is aware of 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, seven of which resulted in fire and smoke damage beyond the unit. No injuries have been reported.
The model and serial numbers are important, as not all dishwashers are included in the recall. Look at the inside on the front left side of the dishwasher tub to find the model and serial number.
This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which will also monitor the effectiveness of the recall program.
Recall Hotline
866-918-8760
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET.
Before calling, have the model and serial numbers on hand.

We just found out that our 2-year-old GE Profile 18" dishwasher (PDW1800NBB) has a puncture in the back stainless steel wall. The leak (over how much time I don't know) has damaged the floor and cabinet...

Sounds lie it might have happened at the factory or from whatever establishment you purchased it from, call the company I would, tell them of your concerns, and the damages, if they do not offer some sort of recourse in your favor, it becomes a civil matter, or try you renters or home owner policy, as I am sure your deductible is way lower than what it will cost to fix this mess, have your insurance company go after the ge people or they probably will just take care of it for you and bag the civil thing, I mean really that's what insurance is for, good luck

Is this GE Profile dishwasher recalled?

No recalls on any GE Profile model dishwashers. (there may have been service bulletins, but no recalls) Also, you missed the first two letters of the serial number.
You can go to this web site http://www.geappliances.com/products/recall/ to find info on any GE recall.

Loose door handle on ge profile dishwasher

Take the inside panel off.  The 2 screws near the latch only need to be loosened.  Once the handle is off, you will find an allen bolt inside the shaft of the handle support.  Tighten and you are done.

Replacement Door Panel for GE Profile Dishwasher

Are you trying to replace the microwave door or the GE dishwasher. Either way, www.applianceart.com (under the stainless steel section) has this roll of stainless material that you apply to your appliances. I saw it on the "Today Show." Its basically faux stainless. We put it on our refrigerator and it looks and even feels like real stainless steel. Its really cool. I think its called stainless foil or something like that. Also if you're looking for a stainless panel for your dishwasher they sell actual stianless panels there too.
