Question about HP Photosmart R817 Digital Camera

Camera locked up

Somehow, the camera is locked up. It seems that the lens is part way out and will not go to home position. I thought it was just an extremely low battery, so I bought a new battery. Same result. When you fire it up, the HP screen comes up and then it immediately turns itself off again. I have tried resetting the camera with the little button, but no dice. Any ideas?

Re: Camera locked up

Having had the same problem and out of warranty so not worth paying for repair, I actually forced the stuck lens back into the camera as I thought i may have to trash it anyway and it worked!!

Re: Camera locked up

I had exactly the same problem. It seems it can happen if the camera tries to open the lens when inside the case. The solution in my case was to grab the outermost metal ring of the lens and twist it clockwise (gently but with enough force). I heard a snap sound as the lens clicks into place and after this the camera started working.

There is dust on the inside of the lens of my nikon coolpics L1. can i get in there somehow to clean it?

Google the words...disassemble a digital camera. When you finish going to a couple of the sites, you may change your mind about trying to take your camera apart.

"Lens Error, Restart Camera" Lens stuck open, completely disfunctional! /sadface :(

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

The problem you are describing is a problem with something in the lens assembly of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $83.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Digital camera says sim card locked

If this is an SD card you may need to take out the card and slide the small switch on the card itself to the "Unlock Position"

Good Luck!

Canon SD600 lens jam

I followed the directions contained in and by disassembling the camera and turning the rotor just a little bit (page 4 of the instructions), it freed up the lens and it is now working perfectly! The camera had been put down on the lens as the lens was retracting and I assume that jammed the retract mechanism. While the camera was open, I blew out whatever dust/dirt was there (didn't see much). The fix took me probably 20-30 minutes, and I am very pleased with myself!

Coolpix L1 Lens error.

Seem like the AF system doesn't reach the home position, therefore the zoom is not closing. Or may be has been smashed and the zoom block is jammed.

Anyway you need professional help. Problem will be solved after a major srip down.
