You need to sync the door with the limits.

I have an older model, say 15 years, Chamberlain Liftmaster 32555LM 1/2 HP Garage door opener and everything works but the wall mounted button behind the white plastic square window. The little green...

The lighted switch is powered by the opener itself. This has the handy feature that, if the light is on, you know you're connected to the opener.

You're seeing the opposite -- no light, which means no connection, which means the button doesn't activate the opener.

There should only be two wires going from the opener to the wall switch, and they're typically 22 or 26 GA solid wires, like telephone wiring.

Given the age of your system, odds are good that one of the wires has broken off at one of the ends -- either inside the wall switch or at the back of the opener. If that's the case, just strip off a little more insulation and screw the wire down again.

If you don't see anything broken, then try this:
When you have the wall switch open and you're looking at the wires, try shorting them with a screwdriver (or just touch the wires together for a moment)
They're low voltage (24V) so you won't get a shock from them.
Shorting them should activate the opener, just as if you'd pressed the button.
If that works, but the light is still not coming on, then you've just got a broken switch. Most hardware stores or home-improvement stores will sell you a replacement for a very low price. Truth be told, you can also just put a doorbell switch on there -- they're based on the same voltage/light/switch system.

My Chamberlain 1/2 HP garage opener moves slightly down and then just humms. It will then reverse to bring the door up. I have checked and the sensors or not blocked or misaligned. The door opens and...

DOES THE LIGHT FLASH AND MAKE A CLICKING SOUND??
YOU DIDN'T MENTION IT BUT IF IT DOES THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY IN THE SAFETY EYES.

YOU COULD HAVE A BAD GEAR KIT OR SIMPLY A SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT THAT IS OFF.

TRY INCREASING THE DOWN SENSITIVITY ABOUT 1/8 TURN.

IF THIS DOESN'T HELP UNPLUG THE UNIT AND TAKE OF THE COVER IS YOU FIND WHITE PLASTIC POWDER THE GEARS ARE STRIPPED AND A GEAR KIT IS NEEDED.

Garage door doesn't open or close

You should check the gears inside the box, After years , the gears get dry and die, you can by online or from Sears the kit and replace the old gears. I just changed mine...not too difficult :) .

Why not call Liftmaster on 800 number. I can see a problem going down with safety beams, but not up.

Garage opener cannot close, just replaced gears.

If the unit has photo eyes that could be your problem. not reattching the 4 wireing harness from the limit assy. can cause a similar issue.

Lights dont come on

If you have a Craftsman/Liftmaster with a 3 function wall control:
use the lift button to turn the light off. push and hold the light button for @1min. until the light flashes. This should reset your operator to have the light turn on when you walk through the photo eyes.

Check to see if the Vacation switch is locked on your wall console. It is a switch on the top of the black wall button. If that is not the problem it sounds like you need to program your remotes. Drop down the plastic cover towards the back of the unit There is a learn button push that and a red LED will come start flashing press and hold the button on your remote until the LED stops flashing (solid red) press the button on your remote again and the light will go off. This will program a remote

Chamberlain garage door opener unit-is it compatible with craftsman keypad?

Hello,Linda well this is your lucky day ,I have installed garage door openers for sears for 10 years and i can tell you that craftsman, chamberlain ,and liftmaster are all the same machine and manufactured under the liftmaster name , if you buy it from home depot it will be a chamberlain ,if you buy it at sears ,it will be a craftsman, and if you go to commercial building supplier it will be a liftmaster! now getting that out of the way even though they are all compatible ,there is one thing that stands in their way and that,s time ,For example if your chamberlain machine is 5 years old and you went to sears last week ,the chances of the frequency being the same are not good , most likely you have the wireless keypad , one way to test the sears keypad against the chamberlain machine is to locate the smart button on your machine ,this button allows for programming of remotes and keypads , to test and see exactly what im talking about take your remote and locate the smart button ,if you have three buttons on the remote press one of the buttons that are not being used on the remote ,above the smart button their will be a blinking light ,if you press your remote button you will notice the light go from a blink to a rapid flash , This is telling you that you are sending a signal for programming to the machine , well the keypad is exactly the same all you have to do is push the enter button on the keypad and have someone watch for the rapid blinking light ,if they are compatible the light will blink rapidly on the machine so all you have to do now is have someone press the smart button once on the machine your indicator light will now be a solid light you will have approx 60 seconds then to put a 4 digit code in the keypad and then press and hold down the enter button on the keypad , at this point you will notice the lightbulbs on the chamberlain machine to shut off and come back on this is to tell you that the machine accepted the code , after thats been done you can use your keypad , you can also find the owners manual to the chamberlain and follow the same instructions to programming the remote , they are identical in programing , if your keypad is not the same frequency you can also tell by looking at the frequency code on the backside of the keypad and also the chamberlain unit usually where the light bulb is will be its code

Door closes 75% of the way and re-opens, light starts flashing.

If you have a Chraftsman/Liftmaster:
Check to see if the door is running correctly.
Run the door down and pull the emergency release. See if the door will run easily by itself.
If it runs hard by hand try lubricating the rollers and hinges with silicone spray or some form of lubricant (not WD 40)
If the door runs fine then check the up and  down force on your operator (the box that hangs from the ceiling). If the light bulb(s) on your operator are on the front and/or back, the force adjustment screw is on the back of the operator. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the force adjustment screw is on the right side (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door). Turn the light blue adjustment screw with the up (or down) arrow to a higher number.
If this does not solve your problem the top bushing could be going out of your operator. Open the case and see if a lot of black filings are on the top of the big gear. If so the gear assy. will have to be replaced part # 41C4220A

Garage door model PD200

Take the back cover off and see if the Gear that turns the shaft that operates the chain to lift or close is in good condition.
The gear is probably plastic and 3" or 4" in diameter.
UNPLUG THE OPENER AND DISCONNECT THE POWER BEFORE DOING THE ABOVE.SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST.
