Button function help

I pressed the button on the upper right of my logitech keyboard (has a quarter moon shaped icon) and my computer shut down immediatey. Now I have lost my internet connection. Are these two events related?

Thanks for the reply. I have both a modem (from Comcast) and a router (for wireless). I have powered everything down (performed the 'power cycle'), rebooted the desktop computer multiple times and still no internet on the desktop computer. Wireless internet works fine (we also have a laptop). I even tried switching the wire out that connects the desktop to the internet (I have a couple of spares). I guess my next try will be to call Comcast.
    Any other suggestions gratefully appreciated!

    Hello Joboo1,
Your suggestions were all helpful, and made me realize that I needed to call Comcast for assistance. The Comcast technician came today. It appears that I fried my network card simply by pressing that 'quarter moon' key. I will have greater respect for trying out keys with which I am unfamiliar!
    Thank you for your assistance!

Hi, I had the same thing happen and it freaked me out. First. lets check the function of that button. Go to control panel, click on keyboard, click on the tab for setpoint settings, click on the tab for keyboard look for the moon key and here you can change the function which is probably on restart. If you think you are going to touch that key by mistake, select do nothing to disable it. While there I would check the other functions to make sure they are what you want. As far as your internet connection, it probably needs reset after the keyboard shut down the computer. You don't say if you have a router or modem or what, but whatever you have power it off and wait a minute and power it back on, you may have to reboot the computer. You can send back a comment to let me know if you need more help since I don't know what your internet setup is. Good Luck!

Hi, This could be a lot of different things so hang in there. Sounds like the power down might have corrupted your lan setup. You don't say what your operating system is. See if you have the icon in the desktop tray, on vista rt click and click the diagnose and repair. xp also has this repair feature. If you have vista or xp use the troubleshooting feature and check the log that it produces to see what is failing. If this works for you - good - if not you can go to your network connections, delete it (them) then use the wizard to make a new connection. Does the lan light on the router come on for the desktop when you plug in the cable? You can also eliminate the router as a problem by plugging directly into the modem. Check the lights on your ethernet card to make sure it is OK. Let me know what you find out. Good Luck!

The quarter moon shaped icon is a sleep button. It will force your system to a sleep/hibernate mode. This may not cause a loss of interenet connection when the system is restarted. Try connecting to the internet again

blue number etc are functions that are connected to the blue fn button in the left hand corner.
press and hold the blue fn button and at the some time one of the other buttons.
eg volume + or - for volume up and down or the moon shape for hibernate, or the sun to change the screen brightness, antenna button to switch on and of your bluetoot or wifi, or the screen button to switch on and off your external monitor port on the back etc. the blue number are your numeric keypad like on a normal keyboard this can be used in the same way by holding the blue fn button down at the same time.

What do the top row of buttons on keyboard meanAZ56001 E5400

Hi! you may be talking about the function keys on your keyboard. Each button has its unique functions that may help you while using your computer. kindly check the images on the button, for example if the image on the button looks like a moon it means that button will make your computer go to sleep mode. all you need to do is to press FN+ the button with the moon image and that will do the job. You may also see sun image for backlight adjustment, speaker image for sound settings a square image for an external monitor that can toggle display from 1 monitor to another. Also, pressing F1 button while computer is booting up may take you to BIOS (basic input output screen) . Don't forget to press FN button together with the function buttons.

This is directly from Logitech:
"Logitech MouseWare Software:
1. Right click on the Logitech white mouse icon in the System Tray and select "Mouse Properties".
2. Click on the "Buttons" tab and your pointing device should be shown. If you have more that one mouse connected, select the mouse you wish to program by clicking on the "Devices" tab, and select the mouse you wish to program from the drop down menu, then go back to the "Buttons" tab.
3. Scroll down the list of buttons and select the button you wish to program, and click on the function to highlight it.
4. Now click on the "Modify" button. A "Modify Button Function" box will appear with a drop down menu. Select the button assignment you wish to use and click the "OK" button. Now click the "Apply" button to save your changes.
Using the "Keystroke" button assignment.
If the button assignment or keyboard command you want is not listed under the button assignments, you may want to use the "Keystroke" button assignment. Using the MouseWare steps above select Keystroke under Step 3. The "Keystroke Assignment" box appears. Click your mouse cursor into the box that states "Unassigned". Now press the key or combination of keys you wish to use and click the "OK" button. The function should now be displayed in the current list of button assignments. Click the "Apply" button then the "OK" button."
Hopefully this will help. Please let me know if it doesn't.

Logitech mouse problem

I assume there is no second mouse on the system and you are using keyboard commands. Try the following in the device manager..
  1. Press Control-Esc or press the Windows key on your keyboard to bring up the Start menu.
  2. Using the up arrow key, highlight "Settings."
  3. Right arrow key to "Control Panel" and press the enter key.
  4. Use the arrow keys to highlight the System icon and press the Enter key.
  5. Use the right arrow key to select the Device Manager tab. (For Windows XP/2000 , use the right arrow key select the "Hardware" tab. Now use the tab key, select the "Device Manager" button and press the enter key.)
  6. Use the "Tab" key to select the "Computer Icon" at the top of the list of device icons.
  7. Use the down arrow key to highlight the Mouse icon.
  8. Use the right arrow key to open the mouse icon and verify there is a mouse icon that states, "HID-compliant mouse," and another entry that states the name of your USB device.
  9. If there are any errors reported on these icons by exclamation points or red X's, highlight these icons using the arrow keys and "Tab" to the "Remove" button and press the enter key. (For Windows XP/2000 , highlight these icons using the arrow keys and then press Alt-A keys. From the "Action" menu, highlight "Uninstall" and press the enter key.) When the "Confirm Device Removal" box appears, press the enter key.
  10. Once these icons have been removed, use the Tab key to get to the "Refresh" button and allow Windows to re-detect the pointing device. (If u r using Windows XP/2000 , press the Alt-A keys. From the "Action" menu, select "Scan for hardware changes" and press the Enter key.)
  11. Use the arrow keys to open the Mouse icon again and verify that there are no errors reported.
  12. Power down the computer system and restart Windows.
