First find the area the noise is coming from. Does it sound like a fan hitting something? Or is the compressor making the noise? Has dust collected in the condenser coil area that has cause air restriction ? I a paper shroud that is mounted near the fan come loose and striking the fan? Has the noise affected the performance of the refrigerator? Let me know and I will be able to help you solve this.If you find the problem please remember to unplug the refrigerator before putting your hand in an area that could cut or shock you!

If the noise is loud enough that it sounds like somone knocking at your door then it is probably going to be the compressor. There are internal springs and is possible one broke. The only solution is to replace the compressor. It is also possible that the condencer fan motor is hitting something as well when it shuts off. You would have to look at it from the back as it shuts off after running.

We have a bottom freezer Kenmore refrigerator, and it makes a very loud tapping noise, almost like someone hammering. Then it will make on loud pop and quiet down for awhile.

Which is your model.
Also how about cooling temperatures are they ok.
Is the sound like the motor compressor hemmering or the fan blades hammer.

Constant loud noise when frig turns on/comes from bottom

when the compressor is running unplug the ref. and if you hear the noise coming from the compressor then
a ballance spring may be broken inside the compressor.

The compressor will run normally with a broken spring it will just be annoying when it shuts down.

There is a loud noise coming from the back of the refridgerator

There is a fan at the back which could be hitting something. You would hear the noise nearly continuously. There is a compressor motor at the back. If you hear the noise just when the compressor starts and stops That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
You may have a motherboard on the back which can make noise. You'll need to roll the unit out from the wall to see where the noise is coming from and remove part of the cardboard backing to get access to the compressor and fan.

Loud buzzing noise from inside Jenn Air 2389G fridge

i don't know jennair specifically being from england.
however, there is often a fan inside the back panel and the noise you heard was the fan hitting ice. the reason now not heard and fridge not working may be that the ice has built up so much the fan is jammed

Whirlpool Refridgerator Noise

Why did you put the megahertz (60 hz) on your question? Get access to the back of the fridge, take the panel off, on the bottom, there is a compressor and condenser fan motor. Look these two and see if the noise can be found here. The fan should run when the compressor runs. If the fan is running and quiet, put your hand on the compressor. It should be warm, slightly hot, but not so that you cant leave your hand on it. If it feels hot and the fan is running, clean off the coil underneath the fridge. Often this is the only problem as nobody hardly ever cleans this thing off. Its the equivalent to the radiator on your car.
