remove the belt from the pulleys then put the belt over the top of a fan blade , turn the fan and put the belt over the next blade and so until the belt is in front of the fan then pull it out between blades
fitting belt is the reverse procedure
1
Drain the cooling system. Place a waste oil collection
pan underneath the petcock valve on the lower corner of the radiator.
Open the petcock valve to drain the system.
2
Remove the bolts that connect the fan shroud to the radiator core and remove the fan shroud.
3
Loosen the alternator adjustment bolt and slide the alternator toward the engine. Remove the drive belt.
4
Loosen the adjustment bolt for the air conditioning
compressor, and slide the compressor toward the engine. Remove the drive
belt.
5
Loosen the adjustment bolt on the power steering pump and slide the pump toward the engine. Remove the drive belt.
Removal of the Water Pump
1
Disconnect the bypass hose from the water pump by loosening the hose clamp and pulling the hose off the fitting.
2
Remove the bolts that connect the water pump to the engine block, and remove the water pump and engine fan as an assembly.
3
Remove the four retaining nuts that connect the fan
assembly to the water pump. They will be located between the fluid
coupling and the water pump pulley.
Installation of the Water Pump
1
Attach the fan assembly to the new water pump by sliding
the pulley then the fluid coupling onto the water pump and reinstalling
the retaining nuts.
2
Clean any old gasket material off the water pump mounting surface on the engine block.
3
Place the new water pump gasket on the water pump mounting surface.
4
Slide the new water pump into position and reinstall the mounting bolts.
5
Reconnect the bypass hose by sliding the hose over the fitting and tightening the hose clamp.
Reinstalling the Drive Belts and Fan Shroud
1
Reinstall the the drive belts for the power steering
pump, air conditioning compressor and alternator. Tighten the adjusting
bolts.
2
Measure the deflection of each belt to make sure the
belts are properly tightened. Measure deflection by placing a straight
edge along the belt against the accessory pulley and the water pump
pulley. Push down on the belt and measure the distance between the belt
at the midpoint and the straight edge. It should be between 1/2 and 1/4
inch. Any more and the belt needs to be tightened. Loosen the adjustment
and slide the accessory away from the engine to tighten.
3
Drop the fan shroud into position and reinstall the bolts that secure it to the radiator.
4
Close the petcock valve on the radiator and fill the cooling system with fresh coolant.
Hi. Here's the proceudere on how to replace the water pump of your 97 Chevy Cavalier.
•1 Drain the cooling system. Place a large oil drain container under the drain fitting located on the bottom of the radiator. Turn the drain fitting counterclockwise until fluid is draining from the radiator. Use a pair of pliers to turn the drain fitting if you cannot turn it by hand. Turn the fitting clockwise to tighten it after all of the fluid has drained from the radiator.
•2 Remove the cooling fan. Disconnect the electrical connection from the fan motor. Remove the bolts holding the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Pull the fan assembly up from the engine compartment and remove it.
•3 Remove the serpentine belt. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to release the tension on the belt. Pull the belt off the pulleys and remove it from the vehicle.
•4 Remove the water pump pulley. Place a screwdriver behind the pulley to lock it in place while removing the pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.
•5 Disconnect the coolant hoses running to the water pump.
•6 Remove the water pump mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench or wrench and remove the water pump from the vehicle.
•7 Clean the mating surfaces of the engine block and new water pump with a towel saturated with lacquer thinner.
•8 Apply a thin layer of RTV sealer to both sides of the new water pump gasket and place the gasket on the new water pump.
•9 Place the water pump against the engine block and finger tighten the water pump mounting bolts to hold the pump in place. Tighten the bolts with a torque wrench to 18 foot-pounds.
•10 Place the pulley on the water pump and install the water pump pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.
•11 Attach any hoses previously disconnected from the water pump.
•12 Install the serpentine belt. Route the belt over the pulleys according to the routing diagram in the engine compartment. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to tighten the tension on the belt.
•13 Install the cooling fan. Gently lower the cooling fan in position and install the mounting bolts attaching the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Attach the electrical connection to the fan motor.
•14 Refill the cooling system to the appropriate level, start the vehicle and check for leaks around the water pump.
Audi A6 (1999 fabrication year): 1. Release the fan belt tensioner. 2. Remove the broken belt. 3. Put the new belt correctly in place. 4. Set-up the fan belt tensioner.
If you specify the engine type of yours car I will send you the fan belt routing diagram!
Inside parts: Small belt wheel (SBW) Large belt wheel (LBW) Motor Assembly (MA) Fan Blades (FB) Fan Blade Cover (FBC) Make sure you have magnetic screwdrivers. Remove MA - 4 screws. Remove FBC - three screws Loosen LBW and slide down shaft a small bit away from end. Need small Allen wrench. Slip new belt around LBW (takes some fiddling). Put LBW back to previous local and tighten. Reattach FBC. Put motor in place. Stretch belt over FB and onto SBW. (It will make it.) Screw in motor. Good luck.
Remove the fan shroud cover and draw the fan belts route, loosen the aircon tensioner bolts x 3 on the left side of the cover and remove the aircon belt. With a 15 mm socket on a power wrench pull the auto tensioner to the rightand remove the belt , with a little skill and patience you can get the old belt off and the new one on over the fan blades without removing the fan.Make sure the belt is on properly to prevent it coming off when starting.
After removing the cover, it should be obvious that one of the pulley's has an adjustment (could be the motor that drives the fan itself) to allow removal and refitting the belt, otherwise there will be a tensioner pulley that has to be released to remove and replace the belt.
